General Manager – Vandalia OHSUMMARY
:The General Manager (GM) is the P&L statement owner and is responsible for the overall operations of the Vandalia, Ohio, Converted Paper plant, ensuring profitability, customer satisfaction, and safe and efficient operations. The GM leads and coordinates activities to achieve these goals, developing and executing medium and long-term strategies aligned with the Pratt Specialty’s growth vision and objectives.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(Other duties may be assigned)Responsible for the health & safety of all employees.Oversee performance and development of all exempt directs and front line leaders.Communicate company standards and values to leaders and hourly employees.Provide a culture for personal growth and achievement in which employees may be innovative and effective.Establish high morale and engagement throughout your staff by showing fairness, consistency, and an interest in employee problems.Be responsible for the location P&L including growing manufactured internal sales, improving converting costs and improving annual EBITDA.Build relationships with commercial, project management and design teams on new styles or items for runnability on converted paper equipment.Develop relationships with applicable divisional staff to determine proper instructions are developed and communicated to the plant for converting effectiveness.Provide input and development of annual budget and capital plan.Embrace continuous improvement and employ CI throughout the plant.Maintain a positive working relationship with peers, direct reports and associates.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESDirectly supervise the leadership team in their location including Demand, Production, Quality, Maintenance, Warehousing, Shipping and location P&L.Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; conflict resolution; team building; coaching and leading employees to improve; addressing complaints and resolving problems; documentation; and setting an example of superior behavior, attitude and performance.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEFor this position, we are seeking candidates who possess a bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university (preferably) and have at least five years of experience in a leadership role within the converted paper packaging industry. Preference will be given to candidates who have worked in paper bag making specialty plants.LANGUAGE SKILLSProficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting diverse materials such as general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Skilled in constructing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Possess the ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from various audiences, including managers, clients, customers, and the public.TECHNICAL SKILLSThe individual must have a working knowledge of the following:Monitor all facility related and equipment to ensure proper maintenance and safety.Ensure all production efficiencies, waste, quality and cost, are within planned guidelines and take necessary steps as needed.Equipment design and capabilities translating into efficient operations.Quality and regulatory oversight; ensure customers quality standards and specifications are achieved as required. Note: OTIF, S.P.C., F.D.A. ISO, etc.Other regulatory requirements including but not limited to wage and hour requirements, environmental and waste minimization, company policies, and personnel requirements including OSHA, DEQ and EEO.MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of mathematics and geometry.LEADERSHIP ATTRIBUTESThe individual must possess the following:Superior skills of time management including the ability to manage multiple issues concurrently and the ability to lead an effective and efficient meeting.Teaching skills in order to function effectively as a teacher for their personnel.Excellent crisis manager who demonstrates that he/she has a high emotional control under adverse conditions and can lead his/her personnel to a successful resolution.Excellent employee relations skills including being an active listener, understanding how to appraise personnel, applying both positive and corrective feedback, being able to resolve conflicts either involving the supervisor directly or as a third party, understands and demonstrates positive motivational skills including coaching and delegation techniques.Demonstrated confidence including providing a consistent leadership style with an acceptable level of professional assertiveness.Professional appearance to support his/her role as a managerial representative.Understands team concepts and work to create a team environment.COMMERCIAL:Work together with the PRS Sales Managers, Strategic Account Managers and other Pratt Plants Sales Managers to profitably grow Vandalia’s business.Develop relationships with customers.Analyze market conditions and provide guidance and coordination to meet goals.Evaluate new products and services to enhance our market position.PHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee should be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.WORK ENVIRONMENTWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
