The Collins Aerospace Applied Research & Technology organization seeks candidates with proven research credentials in model-based engineering and model-based design to join the Digital Systems Engineering Group. The team is part of the Collins Aerospace Advanced Methods Department, geographically distributed in the US and Italy, and works with Collins product teams and external research sponsors to extend both the state of the art and the state of the practice of Cyber Physical, Embedded Systems Development and AI-enabled Systems.

The ideal candidate has a mix of academic background and experience in model-based requirements management and analysis, and modeling, prototyping, and validation of cyber-physical and AI-enabled systems.

This is a remote position within the US.

Primary Responsibilities:

Contribute to the definition of novel MBSE methods, where models are the enablers for “digital thread” linking requirements, architecture, and implementation models.

Develop models and validate them w.r.t. specifications dealing with regulation objectives.

Develop software tools, or customize Commercial-off-the-shelf tools capabilities.

Support the team to mature and transition transformative technologies to industrial business units bridging the gap between exploratory research and industrial application.

Execute R&D activities within an international research community, including technology development within collaborative multi-national research programs.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience, OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.

In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required.

Effective communication and presentation skills in English (verbal and written).

Must be able to verify U.S. Person Status as defined by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in an appropriate technical discipline, such as Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering.

Knowledge and competency with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) modeling languages, including SysML (Cameo or Enterprise Architect), Matlab/SystemComposer and MBSE frameworks, e.g., MagicGrid, UAF.

Knowledge and competency with Model-Based Design modeling languages and tools, including Matlab/Simulink, and software architecture framework, e.g., FACE or equivalent in other domains such as AUTOSAR.

Experience with software tool architecture definition, tool prototype implementation, tool integration and automation solutions.

Experience with C++/Java and Python programming languages.

Experience with ML frameworks, e.g., PyTorch, Tensorflow, Matlab Deep Learning Toolbox.

Knowledge and competency with Agile development is a plus.
