Summary:
The National Science Foundation is seeking qualified candidates for an Interdisciplinary (Supervisory Program Director) for Detail within the Directorate for Geosciences (GEO), Division of Earth Sciences in Alexandria, VA. This detail is open to all qualified permanent and rotator NSF employees. The initial appointment will be 120 days, with the possibility to extend up to 365 days in 120-day increments. Responsibilities:
The program director is guided by the goals of NSF's Strategic Plan: (1) enable the United States to uphold a position of world leadership in all aspects of science, mathematics, and engineering, (2) promote the discovery, integration, dissemination, and employment of new knowledge in service to society, and (3) achieve excellence in U.S. science, mathematics, engineering, and technology education at all levels. Program Planning and Management:
Maintain a healthy balance of support for all the needs of the research and education enterprise. Manage program resources to ensure integrity and consistency in the grant/declination process. Incorporate cross-directorate responsibilities into program administration. Supervisory Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and overall direction to scientific and administrative staff. Provide onboarding and training of new rotating program directors. Representation, Communication, and Leadership:
Represent the Program, Division, and Foundation within the scientific community and other appropriate agencies. Participate in meetings, providing input relevant to the Program area. Professional Development:
Establish contacts and maintain active involvement in Program and related areas through participation in professional activities. Requirements:
This position is outside the competitive civil service. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a Physical Science or closely related field plus six or more years of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position. Conditions of Employment:
