Rush University Medical Center , a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution, and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, is searching for a new Section Chief of Critical Care to join the

Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine . The qualified candidate will join the growing team of 26 faculty members in the Division and will work closely with the Division Chief to provide leadership to the very active critical care program at RUSH.In this position, the Section Chief will also serve as the critical care CMO for the institution. Rush University Medical Center has 2 MICU services (total of 28 beds), an Adult ICU with mixed medical and surgical patients (28 beds), a neurosciences ICU (28 beds) and a cardiosciences ICU (28 beds). The Division manages the MICU, as well as the medical patients in the Adult ICU (typically 14-18 patients). However, as the critical care CMO, the new faculty is expected to provide leadership to all the ICUs.Teaching and supervising medical students, residents, and fellows will be an important educational activity as RUSH has an

ACGME-accredited Pulm/CC fellowship

with 4 fellows per year (total of 12 fellows) and a

Critical Care fellowship

with 2 fellows per year (total of 4 fellows).The Section Chief of Critical Care will become a key leader in the Division and in the RUSH Lung Center. In addition to providing administrative leadership, the new section chief is expected to have an active role in clinical research. The Division is interested in recruiting a faculty member with expertise in mentorship and a track record of clinical research in critical care. There is divisional and departmental support for establishing a clinical research program in critical care.The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine has extensive research collaborations with 5 PhD faculty in the Respiratory Therapy Department who are members of the Department of Cardiopulmonary Sciences at Rush University.
