Overview: Climate United Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (“Climate United”), is seeking a full-time Director, Internal Audit and Risk to join our team. Reporting to the VP of Enterprise Risk, the Director of Internal Audit and Risk will be instrumental in developing and implementing an internal audit function which incorporates ongoing risk assessment and internal audits, while managing the ongoing remediation and continuous improvement of CUF’s internal control environment to ensure that we are achieving our organizational objectives. This role requires a seasoned internal audit professional with extensive experience in community and/or climate finance, federal grants/contracts compliance/auditing, strong leadership skills, and an ability to work with stakeholders to convey the importance and relevance of maintaining robust internal controls.
Key Responsibilities: Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Lead Climate United’s formal risk and control assessment processes across all lines of business and CUF risk categories.
Play a key role in contributing to the effective design and delivery of Climate United’s internal audit framework.
Effectively and independently lead the internal audit process of complex/high-profile projects, including critically reviewing scope, objectives and methodologies of Internal Audit projects, and driving relevant and impactful reporting to key stakeholders.
Independently drive project/resource scheduling and budgeting to provide an effective internal audit program, including the management of outsourced/co-sourced auditors or consultants, as needed.
Collaborate with VP – Enterprise Risk on CUF’s Enterprise Risk Management program, risk assessment, and in the building of a risk-based audit plan and integrated risk management framework.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, CUF Coalition Partners, and sub-awardees.
Leverage data and analytics to proactively identify and prioritize risks and trends for management.
Stay abreast of the changing regulatory environment which may affect the CUF award and its portfolio.
Advise and consult key CUF stakeholders driving effective risk identification, assessment, remediation, and disposition.
Foster an environment of trust, collaboration, shared objectives & belonging between the Enterprise Risk team and CUF stakeholders to improve processes, systems, and outcomes.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field.
Industry-recognized certifications in the internal audit/compliance industry: Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) preferred.
Thorough understanding of federal grant management compliance, specifically 2 CFR Part 200 Uniform Guidance and experience conducting audits in accordance with USG regulations.
At least 8 years of internal audit experience.
At least 5 years of Risk Management experience.
At least 2 years of People Management experience.
Willingness to travel up to 20%, primarily within the US, and ability to work from the Washington, DC area or be willing to come into the office quarterly for team collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in relevant field.
Experience working in a professional auditing/consulting services environment leading cross functional teams or projects, preferably in Big 4.
Expertise with internal audit management/audit data analysis software packages, and enterprise risk management software.
Experience leading large/complex projects/delivery in terms of resources and budgets.
Experience conducting data quality/integrity assessments, ideally for USG-funded grants and contracts.
