One of our most challenging new fields is Microelectronics Design and Applications (MDA), which combines the unique properties of superconductivity and quantum mechanics to develop radical new energy-efficient computing systems. MDA is seeking a
Principal/Sr. Principal Systems Engineer
with demonstrated ability to lead development of new technologies to support our innovative MDA team in support of emerging supercomputing technologies.
What You’ll Get to Do:
Ensure system technical compliance with the program Statement of Work (SOW) and system requirements.
Manage the vertical and horizontal technical integration throughout the product teams and program life cycle.
Collect, manage, and report the program metrics and Technical Performance Measures (TPMs).
Manage risk and opportunity and track the associated program dependencies in the program schedule.
Coordinate between the System Architect, Chief Engineer, Product Team Lead(s), program manager, and customer to ensure the integrity and executability of the program technical baseline.
Lead the development and implementation of manufacturing systems and processes for new and existing products.
Perform systems analysis to identify areas for improvement in manufacturing efficiency and product quality.
Collaborate with design engineers to ensure manufacturability of new products.
Develop and maintain documentation for manufacturing processes.
Implement lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for technical issues.
Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.
Mentor junior engineers and technicians in systems engineering principles and best practices.
Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in manufacturing and systems engineering.
This position is contingent on clearance.
This position will serve on-site in Linthicum / Annapolis Junction, MD.
This position can be filled at the Principal or Sr. Principal level. Qualifications for each level below.
Basic Qualifications for Principal Systems Engineer:
Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years of experience, a Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years of experience, or a PhD in a STEM discipline with 0 years of experience.
Proven track record of successful development of technologies to maturity of the Systems Engineering Life cycle.
Demonstrated Model Based Systems Engineering (SysML) experience.
Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
Strong leadership and project management abilities.
Demonstrated Requirements Management from Elicitation to Verification.
This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. citizen.
Current active DoD TS/SCI with poly security per business requirements.

Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 8 years of experience, a Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 6 years of experience, or a PhD in a STEM discipline with 3 years of experience.
Proven track record of successful development of technologies to maturity of the Systems Engineering Life cycle.
Demonstrated experience with Systems Development Lifecycle.
Demonstrated Model Based Systems Engineering (SysML) experience.
Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
Strong leadership and project management abilities.
Demonstrated Requirements Management from Elicitation to Verification.
This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. citizen.
Current active DoD TS/SCI with poly security per business requirements.
Preferred Qualifications for Principal / Sr. Principal Systems Engineer:
Knowledge of Systems Engineering processing from generation of an Integrated Master Plan (IMP) to Work Product Breakdown into Integrated Master Schedules (IMS).
Risk and Opportunity Management experience.
Master’s degree or PhD in STEM or technical management.
Understanding of DoD systems engineering requirements.
Multi-Disciplinary Engineering exposure and strong ability to communicate cross functionally.
Salary Range:
$102,400 - $160,900
Salary Range 2:
$127,000 - $199,600
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
