The Department of Child and Family Development (CFD) at San Diego State University seeks applicants for a full-time, 10-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position with a research program focused on human gender, sexuality, and sexual orientation. Areas of potential focus may include: (1) gender and sexual diversity throughout the lifespan, including childhood, adolescence, and adulthood, (2) intersectionality of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), and/or (3) psychological, biological, cultural, and behavioral aspects of human sexuality and family life. The position will begin Fall 2025. The overarching criterion for a successful candidate is a demonstrated record of success in research, service, and teaching/mentoring historically marginalized students.Responsibilities:Maintain an active research agenda that specifically addresses diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging as it relates to the candidate’s area of research focusMaintain an active research agenda, securing extramural funding, and publishing results in peer-reviewed journalsTeach coursework within the undergraduate B.S./CFD major and graduate programsAdvise/mentor undergraduate and graduate students in the CFD programParticipate in service at the department, college, and the university levelCollaborate with department faculty and staff in departmental governance, program development, scholarship and serviceServe as an active member of relevant scholarly societies and/or professional associations or professional organizations or campus committees, including those that advance historically marginalized populationsMentor or advise individual students, including those from historically marginalized populationsProvide professional development-related services to the broader communityThe minimum salary for this position is based on the current CSU salary schedule for Assistant Professors and may be revised based on contract collective bargaining. The anticipated starting salary range is from $85,000 - 89,000. Salary placement will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience, and salaries higher than the published maximums may be offered in limited circumstances. Required Qualifications:Doctorate degree in Family Studies, Child Development, Human Development and Family Science, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Education, Public Health or a closely related social science field.
