The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) C4ISR Systems Division is growing its systems engineering team by adding this position for an experienced Systems Architect. The Systems Architect will be developing a complex architecture, setting technical vision, leading a complex ecosystem of engineers and mission partners. They will be advising and working closely with the government on a large program of record across a vast system of systems. Additional responsibilities will include developing interesting proofs of concept and solving complex engineering problem sets vital to the strategic defense of the United States and Allied partners. SDL’s technical concentration areas are data science, data engineering, telemetry processing, network architecture, cloud engineering, cyber engineering, and weapon system assessment.
SDL works with the Department of Defense and industry to create novel solutions that impact national defense in space, air, land, and sea. We are very team oriented and collaborative. If you enjoy challenging problems, collaborating, and delivering effective solutions, we want you on our team.
This position is based in Logan, UT or Ogden, UT.

Key Responsibilities:System Architecture Development:
Designs and refines complex system architectures, integrating sensors, networks, data processing, and analysis tools into a cohesive solutionTechnical Leadership:
Leads a multidisciplinary team of engineers (Systems, Hardware, Software, Cloud, and Cyber) to deliver high-quality, integrated systemsCollaboration with Stakeholders:
Works closely with government partners and other decision-makers to ensure system designs meet operational and strategic needsRisk Management:
Identifies and mitigates technical risks throughout the development lifecycle, ensuring the successful transition of systems to the operational environmentSystems Engineering Support:
Guides the development of system requirements, performs architecture analysis, and provides integration and test support for mission-critical programsCybersecurity Integration:
Works alongside cyber analysts to design secure, resilient systems that meet operational and security standardsExternal Interface Management:
Analyzes and integrates with external data management systems and operational interfacesAI/ML Integration:
Leads efforts to incorporate AI/ML solutions into system performance optimization and data analysis workflows
Education:Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines
Experience:At least 15 years of experience in systems architecture and engineeringProven experience designing and developing complex, integrated systems, including hardware, software, and cybersecurity componentsDemonstrated ability to align system architectures with strategic objectives and customer needsExpertise in developing system architectures for complex, multi-layered systems-of-systemsExperience in systems engineering, with a focus on ensuring cyber resilience and integrating new technologies into existing systemsMust be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a US Government security clearance
Preferred/Desired:DoD Systems Engineering:
Experience in DoD-related projects and understanding of Systems-of-Systems (SoS) engineering methodologiesMBSE & Digital Twin:
Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Requirements Creation, and Digital TwinsCybersecurity in Operational Technology:
Experience with integrating cybersecurity into operational technologiesDoDAF/UAF Knowledge:
Familiarity with the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) and Unified Architecture Framework (UAF)Advanced Degree:
Master’s or PhD in a related STEM fieldSecurity Clearance:
Active DoD Top Secret clearance preferred
