Become a part of Packsize and help us build Smart Packaging for a Healthy Planet.About the RoleWe are currently seeking an engineer to work as a Robotics and Vision Engineer in the R&D Hardware group. This is a full time, exempt position. You will be working with a team of engineers in both the USA and Sweden to develop automation and robotic applications in the packaging industry. Initially the role will be largely research, prototyping, developing system architecture and concept work. We are looking for a professional that fits into our “outward mindset” culture that fosters an enjoyable work environment, while maintaining a high level of contribution for the team.What You’ll BringBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.Proven experience in robotics systems development, particularly in pick-and-place applications.Some experience in AI/ML techniques, including deep learning for computer vision (e.g., convolutional neural networks).Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, and ROS (Robot Operating System) a plus.Experience working and/or developing with robotic hardware, including end-effectors like suction cups, grippers, and other actuators.Familiarity with simulation tools (e.g., Isaac Sim) for robot testing and optimization.Experience integrating sensors (camera systems, LIDAR, etc.) for object detection and navigation.Understanding of automation systems and their deployment in logistics or fulfillment environments.Experience with reinforcement learning and neural network training to improve robot adaptability.Experience with programming and integrating industrial robots such as ABB or Fanuc with a control system.Experience with programming and integrating industrial vision systems such as SICK or Cognex smart cameras with a controls system.Familiarity with Codesys programming environment helpful including IEC 61131-3 standards.Experience with industrial ethernet protocols like EtherCAT.Experience with Git version control including commit, branching, merging, debugging and related functions for code development and management.Ability to read electrical schematics.Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues is a plus.Capable of designing, building and testing physical prototypes, including 3D CAD and printing, and using typical shop tools.What You’ll DoDesign, develop, and implement robotic systems for picking, sorting, and packaging consumer goods.Work on AI models, including machine learning and deep learning algorithms, to improve robot performance.Help design various end-effectors, including suction, grippers, and specialized tools for object picking.Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, data scientists, and operations teams to enhance robotic capabilities and system integration.Use computer vision and sensor technologies (LIDAR, depth cameras, etc.) to detect, classify, and localize objects in real-time.Test, iterate, and optimize robotic performance in test environments, such as conveyor belt systems, table-top or tote picking processes.Analyze and improve the robot's handling of unpredictable tasks and adjust learning models for better performance over time.Ensure systems meet safety and operational standards for use in industrial environments.Document design decisions and share findings with team members.Physical Demands and Working Conditions:Must be a US Citizen.Mostly onsite with some remote work.Salary and Benefits:The salary range for this role is however, Packsize considers several factors when determining compensation when extending a job offer, including but not limited to, the role being offered, the associated responsibilities, the candidate's prior work experience, education/training, and any special skills.If this role excites you but you don’t meet each requirement listed, we encourage you to apply anyway.
