Job Description:

The Role: Oncology Nurse Navigator (RN)

Serves as a patient advocate, liaison, and advisor/educator to assist patients with navigating the continuum of care.

The Opportunity:

MaineGeneral Health is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Medical Oncology team at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care in Augusta, Maine.

The Oncology Clinical Navigator serves as a patient advocate, liaison, and advisor/educator to assist patients with navigating the continuum of care. MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care (HACCC) in Augusta, Maine is a proud partner of the MaineHealth Cancer Care Network, a coordinated system of care with the support of the Harold Alfond Foundation. The HACCC staff cares for more than 12 percent of Maine's cancer population and sees more than 7,000 individuals with a cancer diagnosis annually, including more than 1,200 newly diagnosed cases. This position is 32 hours per week, with a Monday through Friday schedule. No weekends or holidays!

The Work:

Rounds on/reviews assigned patients regularly and evaluates patient progress with plan of care.Communicates plan of care to patient and family and solicits concerns, questions, and issues for resolution.

Provides emotional support, counseling, clinical education and expert guidance to patients and families to promote their ability to understand and meaningfully participate in the healthcare process and personal decision-making.

Serves as a liaison between patient and clinical staff, administration, physicians, managed care companies, and community/external resources to coordinate/maximize resources and identify/resolve barriers to the plan of care.

Assists patients and families with resolving financial, psychosocial, functional, and administrative issues by advising of options and referring to appropriate resources. Intervenes as appropriate to advocated for patient and family.

You Have:

Active Maine RN licensure or ability to obtain same in a timely fashion, required

BS in Nursing, preferred

At least 3-5 years of experience with oncology patients and families, strongly preferred

Oncology Certification (OCN) or defined process for achievement of certification, required

Strong communication, interpersonal, and organization skills

Strong problem solving and advocacy skills

Ability to prioritize workload, handle multiple tasks, and to work independently with limited supervision
