Join us and be a part of the diverse Caltech community.Job SummaryThe Assistant Director of Admissions is a regular, full-time, benefits-eligible salaried position responsible for recruiting and evaluating candidates for undergraduate admission as well as carrying out other assigned projects as needed. The Assistant Director level is elevated from the Admissions Counselor (entry level) position because an Assistant Director is expected to fill a significant coordinator role for an admissions program and/or event; the role is intended to move the professional development of this staff member into more strategic work than mostly tactical work. This position will sit within the Marketing, Communications, and Visitors' Experience team of the Undergraduate Admissions Office and reports to Senior Associate Director.Essential Job DutiesResponsible for filling a significant coordinator role for an admissions program and/or event. The admissions program specific to this role will encompass marketing, particularly managing the branding and social media strategy of the Undergraduate Admissions Office.Counsel students and conduct presentations about Caltech undergraduate life, admissions, and financial aid policies/procedures to audiences on campus, in high schools, and at large off-campus venues.Plan and execute an effective recruitment travel plan that makes appropriate use of staff time, budget, and data to target the most promising candidates to Caltech.Travel as much as 4-6 weeks during the fall months, including but not limited to out-of-state travel.Build and maintain relationships with high school counselors and alumni in an assigned fixed region, as well as with faculty, staff, and other relevant stakeholders.Thoroughly read, critically evaluate, and recommend appropriate admission decisions on highly competitive applications.In concert with the overall brand guides of the Institute, directs the social media and branding standards specific to the Undergraduate Admissions Office.Manage the design, ordering, and inventory of marketing materials (publications, swag, etc.) which can include evergreen and event specific needs.Maintain and oversee a social media and branding budget.Carry out other admissions-related projects as assigned by the Dean of Admissions or a Senior Associate Director.
Basic QualificationsBachelor's degree required as well as familiarity with the activities of an undergraduate admissions office.2-4 years of professional experience in undergraduate admissions, high school counselor, or related field with exposure to marketing.Knowledge and experience with various social media platforms.Basic understanding of how to use creative tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva)Ability to work, and comfort with, diverse audiences.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Incumbent must be conscientious, proactive, self-motivated and a strong, positive team player.Must have the ability to participate in a fast-paced, creative, and success/deadline driven environment.Attention to detail, especially as it pertains to the holistic review of application materials.Exhibit professional behavior and excellent judgment in executing all activities of the office.Flexibility to travel by air, especially for several weeks in the fall, spring or summer months, to domestic locations.Must have the ability to manage several projects simultaneously while meeting aggressive deadlines.Knowledge of basic Microsoft office tools including Word, Excel, and Outlook.Flexibility to work beyond a typical 8am-5pm job, including evening and weekend projects.Posses or have the ability to obtain within the first year of employment a valid California driver's license
Preferred QualificationsStrong knowledge of design programs (Adobe Creative Suite), web content management systems (in particular WordPress) and Microsoft Suite.Experience working with diverse and underrepresented student populations.Master's degree in a related field.

Hiring Range$68,640 - $72,900 Per Year
