Working under the direction of the Senior Buyer, this position involves managing vendor relationships, promotional planning, assortment, pricing, and financial performance. This role is essential in aligning business initiatives with GameStop’s broader goals, optimizing category performance, and meeting customer needs. The Merchant will drive category objectives and oversee the day-to-day activities required to achieve business and financial goals, including assisting in budget creation and financial target attainment.Location:
Grapevine, TX Office (In-office, 5 days a week)Key Responsibilities:Assortment Management & Merchandising:
Execute assortment strategies, collaborating with the Visual Team and Merchant Director/Senior Buyer to ensure product presentations align with GameStop’s standards.Manage the entire life cycle of a SKU, including but not limited to product imagery, product attributes, and any additional assets.Develop plans for SKU lifecycle management, coordinating SKU introductions and exits while optimizing store sets, margins, and sales goals.Ensure comprehensive vendor representation and alignment with competitive landscapes, adjusting assortment based on store, market, and regional demands.
Pricing & Financial Management:
Work closely with the Pricing Team and Merchant Director to set margins and retail prices that align with financial objectives, incorporating promotional and clearance schedules.Collaborate with finance to monitor and adjust category financial metrics, including forecasting open-to-buy, profit, and inventory targets.Oversee vendor funding and CO-OP processes, maintaining accurate, timely financial reporting.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
Engage with Visual, Planning, Pricing, Marketing, eCommerce, and Operations to ensure cohesive execution across all channels.Support the Marketing Team with promotional material reviews and drive channel-specific promotions with vendors.Cultivate and manage relationships with vendors and partners through proactive, professional communication and collaborative planning.
Category Growth & Analysis:
Monitor market share and make data-driven recommendations to enhance category strategies.Provide weekly and monthly category recaps, contributing insights to guide future actions.Facilitate cross-functional partnerships across internal and external teams to ensure GameStop’s category plans meet customer and business objectives.
Customer and Retail Support:
Act as a resource for retail stores and field leaders, providing category guidance, product information, and support on all assigned responsibilities.
Qualifications:Required:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, merchandising, or a related field.Minimum of 2 years of experience in retail buying or a closely related field.
Preferred:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Excel, and Word.Strong communication and presentation abilities with a collaborative working style.Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.Effective project management skills, with an ability to prioritize and manage tasks in a high-paced, results-driven environment.
