Chief of Human Resources and Business Development (Chief, PROS Division 3)

Zoo Miami currently has a full-time Chief of Administration available. We are searching for a team-oriented candidate that will be creative, engaging and deliver an exceptional guest experience by creating friendly and positive interactions with all guests and co-workers.

Summary : This position reports directly to the Zoo Director. This position is responsible for providing strategic planning, leadership and management of Zoo Miami’s business operations including Human Resources, budget management, procurement, and finance.

Responsibilities/duties include, but are not limited to:

Responsible for the overall strategic plan, direction, leadership and management of Zoo Miami’s Business, Human Resources and organizational development that works in conjunction with the Executive Leadership team.

Oversees the Zoos business operations sections that includes budget, procurement, finance and the Zoo Human Resources section.

Responsible for implementing and evaluating the Zoo’s strategic plan, HR operations, budget and finance management based on quantitative and qualitative data from performance trends, training and development, staff engagement efforts and other crucial processes that advance and expand the Zoo’s commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDEA).

This position is responsible for and a key member in driving, coaching, mentoring, and encouraging the positive work culture at Zoo Miami by creating and implementing internal training courses and seminars.

To maintain the Zoo’s focus on best practices, the position incumbent is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing strategic initiatives designed to achieve goals and objectives throughout all divisions of Zoo Miami.

Responsibilities include preparation of specialized reports and presentations pertaining to departmental performance, the Association of Zoo’s and Aquariums accreditation process, initiatives, and events. Additionally, ensuring the Zoo’s efforts supports a culture that attracts and retains staff and volunteers that are committed to the Zoo’s mission, vision, and goals.

As the Chief, this individual has signing authority in the absence of the Zoo Director (see attached) to ensure the highest level of leadership and ongoing operations of Zoo Miami while collaborating with other executive and senior leaders within Zoo Miami and throughout Miami-Dade County Government to meet the goals of the strategic plan and to create a cohesive team.

Represents Zoo Miami at Department and County meetings, other government agencies and appropriate state and federal agencies in coordinating the work of the Zoo, the Association of Zoo and Aquariums (AZA) conferences and meetings. Serves as a member of Executive Leadership team with authority to lead, support, and establish continuity and consistency in absence of Zoo Director.

Oversees the preparation of the Zoo’s annual budget submission ($45M) with the Zoo Director. Make independent judgment and decisions in the management of Zoo Business and Human Resources division.

Reviews work progress with other Zoo Miami division heads, their key staff, as well as other supervisory personnel.

Directs the conduct of studies and surveys to ensure maximum utilization of AZA best practices throughout Zoo Miami.

Plans, implements, and continuously evaluates an inclusive strategic and business plan between all Zoo divisions to ensure goals and initiatives are aligned with Zoo Miami’s and the Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces mission and vision; provides direct leadership for 3 (three) management/professional level reports and indirectly approximately 9 (nine) departmental employees; establishes, implements and monitors strategic direction, policies and procedures for the effective, efficient operation of all Zoo divisions; assists and participates in organizational forecasting, analysis, planning and development with the Zoo Director; serves as a member of the Executive Leadership team for Zoo Miami with authority to lead, support, and establish continuity and consistency in absence of Zoo Director.

Oversees the preparation, development and implementation of the annual budget for the zoo (~$45M) in conjunction with other Chiefs; oversees the development of budget estimates; reviews current year expenditures and recommends budget revisions to the Zoo Director to avoid over expenditures; provides operational pro forma for planning and budgeting purposes to assist all sections and to subsequently report on performance assessment.

Manages all Zoo personnel processes including nationwide industry specific recruitments, payroll and benefits, evaluations, new hire orientation, and discipline for a workforce of 401 budgeted positions; researches, develops and implements new strategies to identifying the root causes of errors to prevent them from continuing to occur; develops, implements, and evaluates process for assessing the effectiveness of all employee engagement programs and activities at Zoo Miami to create a culture of cohesiveness.

Performs other related tasks as requested.

Experience Required

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree. A minimum of four years of administrative, supervisory or operational experience in a park or attraction is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of four to five years of progressively responsible experience in either Human Resources or Budget Management.

Salary

$100,164.22-$165,347.26
