Full-Time Staff AccountantAvamere Living Corporate Office25117 SW Parkway, Suite BWilsonville, Oregon 97070The Staff Accountant performs a variety of professional level accounting duties surrounding the recording and reporting of financial transactions involved in Avamere Living operations and services. Works under occasional direction or instruction as new or unusual situations arise, exercising initiative and independent judgment in the performance of assigned tasks.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIESMaintain and reconcile a variety of ledgers, reports and account records; examine and correct accounting transactions to ensure accurate recording, balancing and classification of income and expenditures to proper accounts in accordance with Avamere Living procedures
Assist in the preparation of complete, accurate and timely financial statements and reports for management staff, area finance managers, external auditors, and financial institutions.
Assist in the preparation of miscellaneous reports and schedules to accompany financial statements for management staff.
Receive, analyze and verify bank statements; reconcile bank accounts to general ledger, analyze discrepancies to make appropriate corrections; prepare and enter journal entries.
Reconcile fixed assets, accounts receivable, accounts payable, prepaid assets and accrued expenses on a monthly basis. Analyze discrepancies; prepare and enter journal entries.
Possibly reviewing authorization for capital expenditures.
Prepare various tax reports (Provider Tax, Business and Use Tax, Labor and Industry reports) and appropriate journal entries for the related accruals as necessary.
Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to the activities of the accounting department; recommend changes in accounting systems and procedures.
Assist in the development of desk top procedures to document instructions for recurring tasks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Excellent communications/verbal skills (written and oral) in order to effectively problem solve with other employees as required.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures and their application to a variety of accounting transactions and problems.
Knowledge of financial research and report preparation methods and techniques as well as the ability to prepare a variety of complex financial statements, reports, and analyses.
Understanding of modern office methods, practices, procedures, and equipment. Including automated financial management systems.
Must have excellent organizational and time management skills in order to maintain accurate records and meet deadlines.
Willingness to participate actively and work effectively as a team member with all members of management and all employees.
MINIMUM PREPARATION/STANDARDS NORMALLY REQUIRED
Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration or a closely related field.
Proven capability for effective use of computer systems, including spreadsheet, word processing and accounting software; ability to operate ten-key and type a minimum of 40 words per minute.
Must be flexible with ability to work hours necessary to complete the responsibilities of the job. Hours are governed by staffing and corporate accounting needs.
Maintain high standards of confidentiality and honesty.
Strong analytical skills; ability to evaluate and solve problems with minimum assistance.
Well developed interpersonal skills to be able to represent Avamere Living in a professional manner that will enhance its overall image. Accounting staff must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of the Avamere Living staff, as well as third parties external to Avamere.
