This opportunity entails being responsible for providing construction site field and office support and resources during construction phases of projects. The Construction Rep applies construction engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assignments and assist the Resident Engineer in partnership with the project team. This position maintains project data, including drawings and specifications, coordinates testing and quality control inspections, and prepares reports on construction progress. May provide mentorship and guidance and oversee the work of earlier career Construction Reps.
What You'll Do:
Performs office management engineer work when needed including but not limited to; assists change manager and project manager in contractor claims and disputes. Tracks, reviews and processes RFIs and submittals and performs constructability reviews.
Inspects, monitors, and oversees construction field work tasks and activities on a project to ensure conformance to plans and specifications. Administers KPIs and budget, reads and interprets complex contract documents to ensure compliance.
Performs or oversees on-site material testing.
Reviews plans and specifications to determine material requirements (quantities and qualities).
Responsible for tracking of item quantities and preparing pay estimates and ensures that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications.
Initiates field changes to drawings and specifications and identifies discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.
Reviews contractor’s daily construction reports for accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency. Prepares weekly progress reports.
Consults with Resident Engineer on work progress and construction problems, proactively recommends solutions, assists in the resolution of issues, and acts as a liaison with the engineer of record.
Remains current and knowledgeable of industry technology and tools used to perform inspection work through industry resources, training, and research. Gains exposure to new technology and utilizes it (GPS/Rovers) to increase efficiency and accuracy of inspection tasks.
May lead daily assignments, mentor, and train employees. Monitors internal HNTB project controls as directed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need:
Associates degree in relevant field and 8 years relevant experience, or
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field and 6 years relevant experience.
What You'll Bring:
Experience with Caltrans construction filing system, lane closure scheduling system, and COZEEP coordination.
Experience preparing change orders.
Ability to manage 2 to 3 junior Office Engineers and project controls personnel.
Knows industry standards and best practices for construction inspection, workmanship, materials, etc.
Secures and deploys section/department resources effectively and efficiently.
Leads the work of the project team in the absence of the PM/RE/ARE.
Performs advanced shop drawing, submittal, and RFIs reviews, as well as advanced CPM schedule analysis.
What We Prefer:
Professional Engineer (PE), Engineer in Training (EIT), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), American Concrete Institute (ACI), Project Management Professional (PMP).
Experience working on Los Angeles Metro projects.
Agency safety training certified preferred.
Trained in digital construction management software.

The approximate pay range for Los Angeles Metro Area and Orange County, CA is $105,071.01 - $164,341.84. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
