The Director of Development & Communications (DODC) is a key member of the senior leadership team, driving CSC South Bay's strategic growth through integrated fundraising and communications efforts. Reporting directly to the Executive Director/CEO, the DODC will develop and implement ambitious strategies to meet or exceed the annual fundraising goal of $2.5 million, while also leading the cultivation of high-level external relationships. This role involves crafting a cohesive communications strategy that enhances fundraising efforts and organizational visibility, ensuring consistent messaging across all platforms to reinforce CSC South Bay's mission and impact. The DODC will lead the Development and Communications team, fostering a collaborative environment that integrates fundraising and communications efforts. This role directly manages the Events & Volunteer Manager, the Development Coordinator, and the Marketing & Communications Manager. The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record in both fundraising and communications, with the ability to create synergies between these critical areas. As a trusted advisor and strategic thought partner to the Executive Director/CEO, the DODC will secure vital resources for strategic growth and cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This role requires a strategic thinker adept at crafting compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences and drive engagement across multiple channels. The successful candidate will seamlessly blend traditional fundraising techniques with innovative communication strategies to elevate CSC South Bay's profile and achieve ambitious growth targets. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES In partnership with the Executive Director/CEO, create and implement a comprehensive 3-year fundraising strategic plan focused on expanding and diversifying revenue sources. Develop innovative fundraising strategies to significantly grow revenue, mobilize stakeholders, and achieve short-term and long-term goals across all funding areas. Collaborate with and engage Board members and other stakeholders to expand the supporter network, fostering their connection to the mission and demonstrating the impact of their contributions. Leverage systems, people, and resources to drive processes and track progress against goals to report on progress to senior leadership and the board of directors. Staff Management Lead, mentor, and manage the Development and Communications team, fostering a collaborative and results-driven work environment. Ensure effective coordination and integration of all fundraising and communication efforts across the organization. Cultivate a culture that embraces innovation, empowering staff by providing clear objectives, direction, and prioritization of fundraising goals and timelines. Manage and expand a diverse portfolio of donors, including foundations, corporations, and individuals, through personalized engagement and face-to-face meetings to secure renewals, upgrades, and new gifts. Cultivate and steward strong relationships with existing and potential donors, implementing tailored strategies to ensure consistent engagement and meet annual fundraising goals. Partner with the Executive Director/CEO to strategically cultivate high-level donors and prospects, expand the Legacy of Hope program through planned giving opportunities and enhance long-term fundraising capacity by growing the major individual donor pipeline. Communications & Advocacy Create and implement communications materials and plans that enhance and complement fundraising plans and reflect CSCSB's mission and principles. Serve as an engaging external representative of CSCSB, nurturing relationships with CSCSB’s Board, donors, partners, and community stakeholders. Work with the Marketing and Communications Manager to develop and implement diverse, coordinated, strategic communications and marketing strategies, including developing content, identifying key opportunities, and ensuring mission and brand alignment. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree required; CFRE certification preferred. Minimum 5 years of fund development experience, including direct stewardship. Proven track record in strategic planning, public support building, and developing effective fundraising programs. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience in crafting compelling fundraising materials. Demonstrated knowledge of local funding sources and strong relationships with donors, funders, and community leaders. Self-starter with the ability to produce results independently and execute work in an organized, analytical, and data-informed manner. Passion, vision, and integrity, with leadership skills to inspire staff and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Strong alignment with CSC South Bay's mission of providing psychosocial and emotional support to those impacted by cancer. Knowledge of the South Bay Los Angeles community is preferred; a personal connection to CSC South Bay's mission is a plus. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Salary Range is $135,000 - $145,000. The position is an in-office position in Torrance, CA, and out in the South Bay community.
