Overview

Essential Function:

This position delivers creative projects for Sally Beauty across print, digital and social touchpoints. The Creative Director is responsible for the overall quality of work produced by the creative campaign team. This is a critical leader in the marketing department and guides the design team, in partnership with the copy team, to ensure the brand is consistently represented. In addition, this position is a key partner in driving the voice of the brand to create clear and compelling customer messages in all channels and executions. As a member of the marketing leadership team, this role contributes to strategy, concept, production, photo, video and content productions, budget responsibilities, channel marketing, content and customer experience decisions and partners with merchandising and store operations teams to create the brand experience.

Note: This role is hybrid (in-office 2 days/week)

The strength of a project’s vision and brand is reinforced by its leadership. Creative Direction is the medium where art direction, design, and strategy all intersect. Part Creative and part Strategy; the Creative Director has a key role in almost every project. The Creative Director’s purpose is to connect the various aspects of a project while ensuring the bottom line is never out of sight — guiding, owning, and nurturing a project in a way that reinforces a customer’s experience across the entire brand lifecycle.

This includes development and delivery of the Sally Beauty brand campaigns through all campaign and omni touch points for acquisition and customer retention. This includes, but is not limited to, 3000+ Brick and mortar retail locations, SallyBeauty.com, store design and physical storytelling, development of our loyalty program, social media, email, direct mail, national advertising and CRM programs, and in all other digital, content, print and broadcast marketing materials.

Primary Duties:

Works with the SCD and cross-functional peers at the strategic and operational levels, understanding how the “pieces fit together” and providing strategic guidance and coaching to the team to accomplish the task. Contributes to and manages the concept development and execution of a wide variety of campaign and communications materials across digital and environmental design.

Oversees, evaluates and improves work of internal creative team to ensure that projects are on strategy, high quality, effective and technically correct. Leads, mentors, advises and oversees the design team. Fosters creative talent among the team.

Partners with Project Management team, executive management and cross-functional partners to ensure creative collaboration, project objectives and brand requirements are met. Leads and executes marketing initiatives while also working cross-functionally with the appropriate teams to ensure clarity on goals and that projects are delivered on time.

Owns developing shoot strategy, pre-production & executing brand photoshoots to bring marketing campaigns to life. Directs and collaborates with external creative partners and agencies. Assigns them work, provides them with creative direction, reviews work and integrates their concepts/work with internal concepts and work.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Bachelor’s degree in Design, Communication, Advertising or related field with strong design portfolio

At least 10+ years of experience as Designer

At least 5+ years experience leading and building a team effectively

Experience in both mass, traditional, digital, social and e-commerce channels

Develops effective campaigns within branding guidelines and stated objectives

Strategic thinking ability and creative talent to generate breakthrough ideas

Strong interpersonal and communication skills: highly collaborative with ability to build solid working partnerships across functional groups

Expert knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Figma, MAC OS

Experience in AutoCad preferred

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, retail stores, and residences or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, books, small parts; using a keyboard, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
