Hiring Bonus Details: $4,000 with first paycheck, $2,000 after 6, 12, and 18 months of employment. *Hiring bonus contingent on candidate having previous OB experience.

Position Summary The Obstetrics Registered Nurse assesses and evaluates patient needs for, and responses to, care rendered. Applies sound nursing judgment in patient care management decisions. Coordinates patient care activities, based on established priorities, including teaching, rounding, counseling, and discharge planning, and directs/delegates appropriately to members of the health care team. Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, significant others, and members of the health care team about the patient's plan of care. Participates in performance improvement, nursing quality, nursing research activities and utilizes same in clinical practice. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for nursing practice and the delivery of safe, competent patient care.

Education and Experience Requirements

EDUCATION: Required: Associates Degree in Nursing

Preferred: Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN)

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Required: Valid Iowa Nursing license or from a reciprocating state BLS PALS, NRP, STABLE, & ACLS completed within 1 year of hire

Preferred:

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Required: 1-2 years medical/surgical experience

Preferred: 1-2 years OB experience

Essential Job Functions

Nursing Process-assesses and evaluates the patient's physical, psychological, social and environmental status considering age and cultural aspects. Develops and implements nursing plan of care and services. Focuses on patient safety as evidenced by: Coordinating and carrying out nursing care according to unit policies and procedures; administering medications, treatments and procedures as ordered by the physician and consistent with the individualized plan of care; being mindful of infection control principles by practicing appropriate hand washing before and after patient contact and appropriately isolating patients with communicable disease. Maintains flexibility as census/acuity and staffing changes; Accepts assignments to other areas as requested by supervisor. Supports fellow team members by periodically assessing team members' work load and providing assistance as needed. Maintains responsibility for managing assigned patients and assures patients' needs are met, including delegation of care based upon patient conditions and departmental needs. Collaborates with the patient, family, physician, and other health care team members to provide comprehensive (all encompassing), compassionate, and supportive care. Assure appropriate follow up to patient, family, physician, and other health care team members' needs. Providing patients and family with education regarding their disease process, medications, treatment and plan of care in language that they understand. Validating effectiveness utilizing teach back methods. Provides outstanding customer service to all patients, families, visitors, and team members, as evidenced by use of AIDET, hourly rounding, bedside report, prompt response to call lights and patient needs, and other Studer principles. Maintain and grow nursing skills by attending all required/mandatory educational offerings, completing all assigned competencies in a timely manner, and maintaining, at a minimum, BLS, NRP and basic fetal monitoring class. Strive to complete ACLS and work toward certification in inpatient obstetrics, maternal /newborn services or advanced degree (BSN, MSN). Assists with orientation and skill growth of new staff/students by providing positive support, a positive learning environment, and serving as a preceptor/resource. Participates as a member of a supportive and collaborative team. Delegates appropriately and oversees care delivered by team members. Maintains positive lines of communication with team members by addressing concerns directly with persons involved when they happen in a constructive, non-confrontational manner, eliminating gossip, and treating others with respect. Documents the delivery of care in a concise, accurate and timely manner into the EHR. Adheres to new/changing documentation requirements by participating in trainings, assisting with chart audits, and seeking assistance when needed. Performs all other duties as assigned.
