Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and proven performer to join our Pipeline Commercialization Strategy team. The Associate Director will play a critical role in gathering and analyzing real-world customer insights from patients, physicians and other Healthcare Professions (HCPs) to support key pipeline asset strategy development across the Oncology therapeutic area. This role involves direct engagement with patient advocacy groups, patients, physicians and other HCPs to collect valuable data and insights that will inform our strategic decisions and Early Brand Plans. The role will require a strong partnership with Global Commercial Leads (PCS), PCS-MABI, other members of the Asset Team and the Commercial Innovation team in the design, execution, analysis and reporting of insights from external engagements.

The Associate Director will report to the PCS Therapeutic Area VP/Lead and will be based in our offices in Lake County, IL.

Key Job Responsibilities

Identify & Coordinate Target Assets for Insight Gathering and Analysis

This will be done in collaboration with PCS TA VP and other core members of the pipeline team

In collaboration with PCS VP, identify and prioritize target assets within the TA in need of real-world insights from patients and HCPs to gain a deeper understanding of market trends, HCP Practice workflows, physician-patient relationship dynamics, patient journey, and the various stakeholders for a specific disease state.

Market Opportunity Assessment which includes but not limited to: Market landscape understanding, disease management protocols, understanding of practice capability/workflow and emerging macro trends & implications

Develop key questions to ask during external engagements. Specific questions focused on projected HCP needs, patient journey, understanding of practice capabilities/workflows, device/diagnostic testing, reimbursement landscape and emerging treatment pathways.

Stakeholder Engagement

Identify the appropriate and most relevant stakeholders across the patient/treatment journey with whom to interact

Develop and execute an EE engagement plan of action, leveraging existing relationships and developing new connections aligned with asset external engagement strategy/plan

Coordinate with in-line teams (US marketing, IMCO, affiliates) as appropriate to ensure one consistent view on the patient journey on the same disease area, same line of therapy at the local level and pull into a global view

Interactions with HCP and Patient Advocacy stakeholders in applicable settings including but not limited to: Academic Centers, Hospitals, Accounts, Community Practices to understand their role, function, needs, and challenges.

Leverage various channels including Market Research, 1:1 engagements, advisory board meetings to gather quantitative and qualitative insights

Build and maintain a network of key opinion leaders and HCPs across different therapeutic areas across key global markets.

Data Collection, Develop Insights and Reporting

Collect, interpret and synthesize insights to generate actionable recommendations to PCS asset team.

Prepare detailed reports, presentations and workshops to communicate findings to the broader AbbVie PCS asset and leadership teams.

Patient Journey understanding which includes but not limited to: Mapping the Operational Patient journey, Identify Patient enablers & barriers, prioritize Moments of Meaning and Patient/Consumer Segments. Outputs will be used to inform Early Brand Plans.

Cross Functional Collaboration ​​​​

Partner closely with PCS Asset team leaders to prioritize and coordinate insight work and deliverables. Collaboration with multiple cross functional teams including Brand Strategy team, Asset Strategy team, MABI, Market Access, Medical, Regulatory, R&D, On-Market Commercial Teams and TA&O to align on Insights work.

Innovation

Fluent in understanding and application of Innovation methodologies to enhance the quality of customer engagement and impact of Insights.

Champion and coach others on PCS TA teams on the application of Innovation/Insights methodology

Stay abreast of emerging Market/industry trends and clinical development programs

Travel requirement of up to 30-40% as required for Patient/HCP engagement/immersions

Qualifications

Skills ​​​​

Navigate HCP Practices and Stakeholders, establish relationships with external customers (HCPs, Office staff, Patient Advocacy)

High Insights EQ to enable synthesis of multiple data sources, develop written insight statements and recommended the pull through of insights into action

Adaptive and iterative work style with a tolerance for ambiguity & navigating complex challenges

Genuinely curious, expansive thinker and immersive learner

Great communication skills in presentations, facilitation and written summary reports

Qualifications Experience Required

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Marketing, Life sciences, Market Research)

Minimum 3 years Commercial experience in Sales, Marketing and/or Market Research

Strong understanding of pharmaceutical product development, clinical trials and the healthcare landscape

Proven experience in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic environment

Preferred

Advanced degree (MBA)

Experience in Oncology Therapeutic Area (Solid Tumors and Hematology)

Experience working with external experts

Strong analytical and strategic marketing skills as well as demonstrated ability to learn new disease states

Strong financial acumen with a good understanding of P&L drivers and the ability to develop appropriate SG&A investment and top-line sales forecasts that generate long-term value

Excellent communication and presentation skills across a variety of organization levels and disciplines, including senior executives

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.​

Salary: $133,500 - $253,500
