Duties
JOB SUMMARY:
To assist the classroom teacher in providing a positive, safe and academically challenging learning environment for students and to assist teacher/supervisor in instructional matters as assigned.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Listed below but not limited to:
* Assist students as they arrive at school, if necessary. This will include assisting students as they board and deboard the school bus outdoors, and riding the bus with the student, if assigned * Assist students to safely move about and/or interact in a safe and appropriate manner during the school day * Assist students with personal hygiene such as, but not limited to, hand washing and toileting (including diaper changes of students with toileting issues) * Assist students in academic instruction as assigned by the certified teacher or IEP Case Manager, including but not limited to individualized, small group and large group activities in all settings as deemed necessary by the IEP team (may include but not limited to home instruction (requires parent/guardian onsite supervision), off premise job-site work, community outings, off campus vocational learning, field trips, and/or any other site necessary to encourage generalization) * Assist the teacher or supervisors in all areas required to create a positive, safe and academically challenging learning environment * In conjunction with the IEP Case Manager, assist with specific identified components of an IEP (relating to children assigned) * Contributes to the Home/School communication procedures under teacher supervision. * In the day-to-day environment, assistants or aides may be required to lift, carry, move or restrain children, as well as to attend to other physical, mental, or emotional needs * Other duties as assigned by the Administration
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year in accordance with recommendations established by the Superintendent of Schools and immediate supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands: calculating, comparing, evaluating, interpreting, organizing, consulting, analyzing, planning, documenting, specifying, coordinating, implementing, and presenting
Physical Demands: bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, cleaning, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity, ability to read and write, ability to speak and understand the English language. Must be able to regularly bend/lift 40 lbs.
Environmental Conditions: inside, working around objects, outside supervision before/after school and/ or on the playground in all seasons
EVALUATION: The basis of the evaluation will be the extent to which the performance responsibilities of the job are successfully handled and the extent to which yearly action plans and job goals are met (as applicable).

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Illinois Approved Paraprofessional License OR * Illinois Approved Professional Educator's License (PEL) OR * Illinois Approved Sub License, issued by the Illinois State Board of Education * Ability to pass fingerprint background check.
Special Knowledge/Skills/Requirements:
* At least 19 years of age * Effective oral communication and interpersonal skills * Read, learn and interpret rules and regulations * Establish and maintain effective working relationships * Maintain CPI certification, provided by District upon hire
Salary/Benefits
Starting Rate: $18.00 per hour commensurate with experience
