Responsibilities 1. Communicates / Collaborates with the respective medical, nursing staff, and respiratory therapy staff in planning, implementing, delivering, and evaluating respiratory care. a. On a clinical level, the lead therapist will align communication strategies that best serve their patient population and the patients' families. b. Pt rounding with RN clinical leaders and MDs may be a part of this responsibility. 2. Oversees activities of Respiratory Care staff on a day-to-day basis: may participate in interviewing and hiring of staff; schedules staff to ensure adequate coverage in patient/hospital area; provides input into, and may administer performance evaluations and counsel staff as necessary. a. Coordinates patient care by creating patient assignments for RTs. i. Such decisions will be made to promote therapist development, continuity of care, and in the interest of allowing cohesive and comprehensive patient care. b. Supports partnering Neonatal facilities in administering resources. c. Advocates and assists in supporting current and future research projects. 3. Supervises patient care. a. The clinical leader will be assigned several therapists they are responsible for. Conducting fair evaluations in conjunction with the department manager is an expectation. b. Effectively communicates behavior adjusting feedback to other therapists. 4. Skillfully executes patient care.a. Clinical expertise on ventilator management, ventilation guidelines (non-invasive and invasive), waveform identification and classification, and oxygen delivery devices are expected, along with the following devices. i. Blood gas interpretation, acquisition, and non-invasive CO2 monitoring. ii. HFOV and Nitric delivery iii. Surfactant and all other medication delivery 5. Teaching, precepting, and coaching are essential. a. Serves as a role model for the profession of respiratory care. b.
