Overview POSITION TITLE (Oracle title) DIRECTOR WORKING TITLE Director-Business Intelligence and Analytics SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT Technology Services LOCATION Crossroads II, Cary, NC PAY GRADE Director Band 2 FLSA STATUS Exempt ELIGIBILITY FOR EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT No WORK WEEK SCHEDULE Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is available for a Hybrid Telework workweek. POSITION PURPOSE: Leads, manages, and maintains enterprise-wide reporting solutions for Wake County Public School System (WCPSS). Focuses on strategic development and operations of Business Intelligence and Analytical practices, including staffing management, process optimization, and technology enhancement. Manages a high-availability reporting platform. Collaborates with business executives and stakeholders across departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support analytic solutions that deliver essential information to meet their needs. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs) Extensive knowledge of SQL and data manipulation languages; Comprehensive knowledge of technical data management systems, data warehousing methodology, data quality, data modeling, data governance, analytics, and predictive modeling; Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the organization's goals and objectives; Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps; Considerable knowledge of human resource management principles, practices, and procedures; In-depth knowledge of current data management trends; Knowledge in BI/data warehousing planning and development; Ability to be self-motivated and self-directed; Ability to provide exceptional customer service orientation; Ability to build and manage virtual teams; Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language; Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment; Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, teachers, support staff, parents, and community members. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; AND Five years of experience in Business Intelligence and Analytics management or related field. Proven experience in leading and managing BI and analytics teams, including experience in hiring, training, and mentoring staff; Experience in developing and implementing BI strategies, including data governance and data quality initiatives; Experience in working with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to drive data-driven decision-making; Proven track record of delivering actionable insights that have positively impacted business outcomes; Experience using project management tools to execute large-scale global projects, with a strong understanding of project management principles; Proven experience in developing business cases and departmental budgets; Extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. An equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully meet the essential duties may be considered. CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with Oracle ERP, Cloud or hosted solutions, and experience working with Student Information Systems; Proficiency in data warehousing, data modeling, and ETL processes; Advanced knowledge of BI tools and platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, QlikView, Looker, or similar; Strong skills in SQL and experience with databases such as MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, or others; Familiarity with big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, or similar platforms; Experience with programming languages commonly used in data analysis, such as Python, R, or SAS; Understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, OCI or similar) and their analytics offering. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Collaborates with stakeholders to define business and system requirements for new information technologies, particularly in BI, analytics, and data warehousing. Works with various business units at the director level to align business and IT structures. Ensures efficient utilization of data resources across different business units and global locations. Oversees the creation and maintenance of reports, dashboards, and information artifacts. Develops and manages global maintenance schedules for BI and data warehousing systems. Promotes the Business Intelligence and Analytics program. Develops a Business Intelligence Competency Center (BICC). Facilitates system feasibility studies, proof of concepts, pilot projects, and testing. Establishes best practices for effective problem resolution in a high-availability, 24/7, global environment. Develops, implements, and maintains key BI and data management policies and procedures, including those for BI/EDW architecture, data centers, standards, purchasing, monitoring, and service provision. Manages the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of Business Intelligence and Analytics systems, focusing on data architecture, data integration, high availability, security, and data privacy. Defines short- and long-term strategies for the corporate BI/analytics program to ensure effective delivery of information that meets current and future requirements. Approves purchases of equipment and supplies to meet operational business requirements. Analyzes existing operations and makes recommendations for the improvement and growth of the Business Intelligence and Analytics architecture. Conducts research and stays current with the latest data technologies and solutions to support future data management procurement efforts. Performs other related duties, as assigned. WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, external agencies, vendors, and contractors. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work requires driving automotive equipment.
