A Public Community Health Certified Nurse Midwife plays a vital role in improving and maintaining the health and well-being of Native individuals and communities. This position involves providing clinical care, preventive healthcare services, health education, and community outreach to address reproductive, infectious disease, and gender affirming health care and promote overall wellness for eligible individuals.
Examples of Work Performed:
Collaborate with PCH medical staff to expand service provision and minimize patient barriers to accessing care.
Provide outpatient reproductive primary care at clinical sites in Toppenish, White Swan, outreach events, and other sites on the Yakama Reservation
Implement grant-related activities throughout the Yakama Nation Public Community Health Program.
Conduct comprehensive health assessments, including physical examinations and medical histories.
Diagnose and treat common medical conditions and chronic illnesses.
Prescribe medications and treatments as necessary.
Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to deliver quality patient care.
Provide health screenings, including blood pressure checks, cholesterol screenings, and cancer screenings. Refer patients for these screenings as indicated.
Perform gender affirming healthcare.
Develop and implement preventive care plans tailored to individual patient needs.
Educate patients and community members on disease prevention, healthy lifestyles, and health promotion.
Conduct health workshops, seminars, and community outreach events to raise awareness about specific health issues.
Create and distribute educational materials on relevant health topics.
Collaborate with local health departments and organizations to support public health campaigns and initiatives.
Assist in the surveillance and monitoring of infectious diseases and other public health concerns.
Collect and analyze health data to identify trends and areas of concern within the community.
Assist in research projects related to public and community health.
Contribute to the development of evidence-based healthcare policies and programs.
Work closely with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to provide holistic care.
Collaborate with community leaders and organizations to address social determinants of health.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and health information.
Ensure compliance with relevant healthcare regulations and standards.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to collaborate with other health entities to further Tribal Health initiatives and remove barriers to care.
Knowledge to utilize independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and provision of ongoing care to ambulatory patients that is in accordance with Certified Nurse Midwife licensure regulations for the state of Washington.
Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with others. Exhibits respect for and understanding of other clinical disciplines and uses an integrated approach to achieve desired patient outcomes.
Ability to use evidence-based standards, guidelines, and protocols to the delivery of patient care. Incorporates new information and approaches, when appropriate, to continuously improve patient care and practice.
Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice, also serves as a resource and mentor.
Knowledge of documenting patient medical files and HIPAA Laws.
Ability to prescribe and dispense medication according to existing protocol.
Ability to order appropriate diagnostic and development screening tests, determine appropriate treatment plans, analyze, and interpret routine laboratory results.
Ability to counsel and educate patients and provide follow-up care and determine the patient's compliance
to therapy and response to treatment.
Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and healthcare software.
Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
Minimum Requirements:
Must be a Certified Nurse Midwife credentialed in Washington State.
Must possess a Masters of Science in Nursing, ARNP licensure, and CNM certification.
10 years of direct, Masters-level patient care required.
Mastery of Colposcopy and Leep skills required.
Ability to obtain and maintain IHS EHR access.
Must pass a pre-employment background check.
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
Preferred Requirements:
Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
