ABOUT THE Division

General Description

We are looking for motivated and self-driven Systems Administrators to join our Microsoft Server team. Your day will be anything but routine as a member of this team. You will be working with traditional and hyperconverged server technologies, virtualization platforms, Naming and Enterprise PKI services, as well as Authentication and Access Control systems. You will help maintain, document, and improve internal IT services and policies. This team's contributions will harden systems to meet the highest security standards and best practices. You will work collaboratively to diagnose a variety of complex infrastructure issues as well as automating routine processes. Growth opportunities are available as you step up and lead. Work Hours

Must be able to work an eight-hour schedule between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm, 40-hour week, Monday - Friday with occasional work schedule variance when necessary. Perform on-call duty on a rotational basis and occasionally work additional hours based on business peaks. Hours may change based on business need.

Teleworking may be considered if certain working conditions are met. The candidate must have permanent residency within the state of Texas and must be able to meet in office requirements, which can vary among different sections (i.e. report to office 1 day/month, 3 days/week, etc.). Travel reimbursements are not provided for teleworking.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree.

• Five (5) years of progressive experience in systems administration and design work.

• Five (5) years of experience in Microsoft Windows or mixed Microsoft Windows/RedHat Linux Server environment.

• Three (3) years of experience troubleshooting server hardware, software, application performance monitoring, and capacity planning tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or Management Information Systems.

• Private industry experience

• Five (5) years' experience in Microsoft Windows Server administration, Active Directory domain administration and VMware environment management

• Experience in disaster recovery tests and related activities

• Experience managing DNS and Certificate Services

• Experience in infrastructure support capacity (server support, desktop support, and helpdesk)

• Experience with DELL Server Hardware

• Experience with Nutanix Hyperconverged Hardware and AOS, NCC and Foundation

• Basic understanding of cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)

• Experience in automation and scripting (PowerShell, Ruby, Ansible, Chef, BitBucket, GIT)

• Linux OS experience

Substitutions

• One (1) additional year of the full-time minimum experience as stated above may substitute for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education with a maximum of 120 semester hours (four years).

• A MCSE certification may be substituted for one (1) year of college/university experience.

Licenses and Certifications (Preferred)

Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE).

SUMMARY OF PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are represented of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

This position requires the incumbent to primarily perform moderate office work, capable of lifting or transferring 50-70 pounds to move equipment from the floor or from a cart onto a work surface (desk or table), capable to lift up 50-70 pounds to unpack equipment from shipping boxes; however, mobility (standing and walking) is routinely required to carry out some duties. It requires extensive computer, telephone and client/customer contact. The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. Marginal or corrected visual and auditory requirements are required for reading printed materials and computer screens and communicating with internal and external customers.

Employees are required to use their personal mobile phones as a part of 2 factor/multi factor authentication for accessing CPA systems securely. You will also receive critical/emergency calls/texts on your cell phone to ensure immediate communication.

In this role you will:

Architecture

• Research, develop, and document operating procedures for technical support, troubleshooting, maintenance, and systems administration techniques.

• Coordinate, plan, and schedule the installation of new or revised systems, and define business process requirements.

• Coordinate projects that cross functional agency systems, and other state entities that require planning and scheduling during project development and implementation.

• Conduct the training of staff prior to the implementation of systems, and provides advice and guidance during and post implementation.

• Recommend to management systems technology solutions and enterprise-related hardware and software standards.

• Assist with budget recommendations for operating systems, including the supporting hardware and software.

• Assist in preparation of disaster recovery plan, including responsibilities and procedures.

• Create and provide regular and ad-hoc reports for supported systems and applications.

• Provide analysis of current server environment

• Analyze, recommend, and implement system changes for efficiency and performance.

• Create automation routines using scripting and other programming languages.

• Assist development and project teams in designing applications consistent with established architecture

Operations

• Oversee and provide guidance in troubleshooting and solving complex problems related to system software and hardware incident and problem calls, and in the processing of service requests and tasks.

• Complete projects and perform systems software and hardware reviews.

• Monitor systems, subsystems, and software applications.

• Gather data for performance tuning.

• Participate in rotating 24x7 on-call schedule.

• Participate in disaster recovery testing

Administration

• Install, configure, maintain, and administer servers, operating systems, and applications.

• Maintain Authentication and Access Control systems.

• Maintain Domain Name zones.

• Maintain Enterprise PKI certificates.

• Initiate and maintain accurate Change Management workflows.

• Create and maintain accurate documentation of current environments.

• Create and maintain accurate documentation of application/server security.

• Follow agency procedures for maintaining hardware and software inventory

Attends and completes all Agency required and assigned training.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
