GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK

This position will support school administration in the supervision and monitoring of student behavior and related activities. The Dean will work with school staff and parents to prevent and resolve student behavior and attendance issues in a consistent manner. The Dean will work with administration and school staff to improve the school climate and general operations of the school.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKSThe minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:Assists in the supervision of students during arrival and dismissal periods; in hallways and bathrooms during and between classes; in the cafeteria and at school events (athletics, concerts dances, etc.);Receives, investigates and administers student discipline referrals related to class attendance and minor and moderate offenses occurring on school property and buses as identified in administrative documents;Meets with students, parents, teachers and administrators regarding disciplinary concerns at the school;Works with the school leadership in the implementation of a multi-tiered system of support for behavior;Assists in the implementation of in-school suspension, detention, and school service programs;Participates in threat assessments as needed;Provides supervision of students beyond school hours when needed;Attends school and division meetings related to school climate and school safety;Participates in crisis team meetings;Other duties as assigned by the school principal and the Executive Director of Student Services.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Working knowledge of school law, policies, and regulations;Ability to communicate effectively in speech and writing;Demonstrated abilities in decision making, problem solving, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, program management and planning;Ability to use surveillance cameras in the investigations of student misconduct;Ability to input, use and collect data from the student management software;Ability to work with diverse populations;Ability to communicate openly and effectively with students, parents, community members, staff and administration as a positive representative of Culpeper County Public Schools.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree and current Virginia teaching license;A minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience (high school preferred);Hold or be working towards a Master's Degree in Administration and Supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS

Duties performed typically in the central office and throughout the division: frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 40 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities are required. Travel to schools throughout the division and central office is required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members, administrators, and parents is required. Contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary. Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all CCPS employees. To ensure adequate staffing, positive employee morale, and to meet expected productivity standards throughout the organization, employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.

The supervisor will evaluate performance on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
