The Indianapolis Zoo is seeking an experienced and passionate individual to lead our Human Resources Department. This individual will be responsible for the planning, development, implementation, and administration of all human resources and volunteer programs.
The
Vice President of Human Resources
is a member of the Indianapolis Zoo's executive team and is ultimately responsible for advising all levels of leadership including the executive staff on policy and program matters and makes recommendations for appropriate HR decisions.
The successful candidate will possess strong credentials in the areas of compensation, training, employee relations and compliance. Advance knowledge of state and federal laws is required along with at least seven (7) years of demonstrated experience with employee problem-solving, investigations, and conflict resolution. The

directly supervises the Director of Human Resources and indirectly oversees the Human Resources and Volunteer Services team members. The
Vice President of Human Resources
reports directly to the President and CEO.
Responsibilities and qualifications of this position include, but are not limited to:Progressive experience (10-year minimum) in the HR Field of Human Resources. Experience with salary administration/ compensation, recruiting, staffing and benefit liaison functions as well as coordinating training, benefits, employee services, and employee relations. Ensures compliance with legal and corporate guidelines.Advance knowledge of state and federal laws and general human resources concepts.Working knowledge of HRIS, preferably ADP's Workforce Now software systems.At least seven (7) years of demonstrated experience with employee problem-solving, investigations, and conflict resolution is required.Four (4) year degree (BS or BA) in a related field such as organizational leadership is required from an accredited institution. SHRM or HRCI certification is a plus.Reviews and oversees departmental operating budgets and produces progress reports on goals and performance.Oversees the administration of all recruiting, hiring, and termination activities. Ensures all employment practices follow Zoo protocols and employment laws.Participates in the Diversity Sub Committee of the Board of Trustees.Serves as the liaison to the Human Resources Subcommittee of the Board of Trustees. Coordinates agendas and committee meetings.Oversees the analysis, maintenance and communication of records required by law, the Zoo, and other governing bodies.Initiates and participates in market and peer salary research. Partners with the SVP and CFO for budgeting and remediation.Provides assistance to management and staff with policy interpretation as well as conflict management and resolution. Follows the Zoo's model of progressive counseling, selecting appropriate methods and techniques for resolving problems.The successful candidate will be an accessible, friendly, and supportive HR professional. May partner with legal counsel on employee matters.Oversees the review and maintenance of the Zoo's payroll and benefits programs. Works in concert with the Director of Human Resources and the Payroll and Benefits Administrator on all employee benefit and wellness initiatives.Ensures proper staff development including continuing education through attendance at seminars and in-house training programs.
