Amend at UCSF in the UCSF Division of Health Equity and Society (DHES) seeks to hire a full-time Senior (Sr) Program Manager. Amend is led by experts in medicine, public health, and correctional practice reform. Amend partners with various organizations to advance jail and prison reform centered on health and humanity. The Sr Program Manager will be central to the planned expansion of the Amend program in new states and women's prisons.
The Sr Program Manager will work closely with the Implementation Director and Implementation Team to advance a broad spectrum of analytical, management, program development, and implementation activities. This role requires knowledge and experience in the fields of criminal justice and/or public policy and/or public health, superb writing skills, dynamic leadership, professional communication, and high-level program management skills.
The successful management of this work requires an ability to partner effectively with diverse stakeholders, including high-ranking government officials, correctional staff, and advocates. A background in social change movements, transformative justice, and knowledge of correctional systems is crucial.
The Sr Program Manager must support the standardization of Amend's innovative interventions. They will work closely with colleagues in Program Design, Research, and Communications to document and disseminate Amend's impact to advance reform beyond enrolled systems.
This position requires travel to conduct in-person training at multiple correctional facilities and may include direct oversight of program managers. The Sr Program Manager should expect to travel for approximately 40-60 days a year. They will also facilitate virtual trainings and assist in presenting the Amend program at various forums.
The Amend Program Implementation Team is primarily located in the SF Bay Area, and it would be beneficial for the Sr Program Manager to live in the SF Bay Area. However, candidates with a history of success working remotely from the Midwest or East Coast will also be considered.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. The salary range for this position is $110,400 - $172,900 (Annual Rate).
Required Qualifications
Terminal degree (PhD, JD, MD, etc.) in criminal justice, public health/policy, or related area and 5-10 years of specialized work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Extensive knowledge of criminal justice reform, public health principles, and health policy.
Experience managing complex projects, programs, and initiatives.
Exceptional writing, organizational, and communication skills.
Superior professionalism and ability to partner effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Experience coordinating complex projects with U.S. Departments of Corrections.
Proven ability to think creatively and independently on advanced analytical concepts.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/programs with competing deadlines.
Excellent Microsoft Office Suite and video conferencing skills.
Ability to travel nationally and internationally to achieve program goals.
Experience managing staff and editing reports.
Advanced oral and written communication skills.
Advanced interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in grant-writing and managing budgets.
Knowledge of labor organizing and mobilization partners.
Background in education and/or training, including using remote technologies.
