Reports To:

Supervisor of Transportation and School Principal

FLSA Designation:

Non-exempt

Job Goal:

To safely transport students to and from school and other school related activities. Maintain a safe and clean environment, manage and discipline students, monitor vehicle performance and report mechanical issues as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:Possess and maintain a valid Alabama bus driver certificate and CDL with a passenger and school bus endorsementPossess and maintain a current Department of Transportation (DOT) physical as required by BCBOE policyPossess and maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record including no DUI convictionsProvide successful drug screening results and be subject to, and pass, random drug and alcohol screenings or the Alabama School Bus Driver Examination Report once every two years.Must be able to successfully complete Blount County School Bus Driver Physical Performance Test.Skills and Physical Abilities:

Physical dexterity, coordination, mobility, visual acuity and stamina to engage in prolonged sitting, stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching in order to safely operate a school bus or other BCBOE owned vehicles.Ability to operate a school vehicle over an assigned route, according to a defined schedule, which may require driving during pre-daylight and post-daylight periodsAbility to perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections as specified by state and federal regulationsAbility to lift objects weighing up to 50 poundsAbility to exert up to 30 pounds of forceDemonstrate the ability to work with school age children

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:Observe all traffic laws, safety regulations, policies, and procedures regarding school buses in accordance with Federal, State, and local government agencies, and the policies of the Blount County Board of Education.Maintain and implement established rules and procedures for transportationTransport authorized passengers only, follow the assigned time schedule and route.Unload students at authorized stops only.Maintain all communication equipment, follow state and board guidelines regarding equipment use.Maintain appropriate student management procedures and report discipline problems to supervisorsCooperate with principals, Supervisor of Transportation and parents to resolve discipline problems.Conduct bus evacuation drills in accordance with approved procedure.Keep bus properly fueled at all times.Keep assigned bus clean by daily sweeping and periodic washing.Pre-trip and post-trip inspections for mechanical defects, unattended students and items left on the bus.Report all accidents, vehicle damage and student injuries to the appropriate officials immediately. Follow BCBOE procedures related to accidents and post-accident activities.Report mechanical failure potential problems, unusual events, work irregularities, and/or late arrival to appropriate supervisory personnelBe knowledgeable in equipment and requirements (both medical and physical) for special needs students that are transported on assigned bus.Complete and submit all required reports and documentation in a timely manner.Be regular and punctual in attendance and follow correct procedure for absences and leave.Keep a professional appearance and perform duties in a manner that will promote good public relations.Maintain proper and professional relationships with students and other employees.Assume other transportation related duties as assigned by supervisor.Maintain highest level of security and confidentiality regarding any and all information gleaned in day-to-day activities regarding students and staff personally identifiable information, according to FERPA and Blount County Security Use guidelines as well as any and all state and federal laws and statutes.

Terms of Employment:

184-day position in accordance with attention to bus driver requirements for morning and afternoon routes.

Daily work schedule (routes) will be determined by the Supervisor of Transportation or his/her designee for the necessary operations of the school assigned. Work assignments and schedules are subject to change.

Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the support personnel evaluation system and board policy.
