Purpose of the Role:The Director of Estimating plays a pivotal role in ensuring the success of Worley's major capital projects by leading the development of accurate and comprehensive capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX) estimates. This position is essential to supporting Worley's commitment to delivering sustainable solutions by providing cost insights that inform project feasibility, guide budget allocation, and drive efficiency. The Director of Estimating will lead a team of experts, contributing strategic and technical oversight to align estimates with project goals and company vision.
Key Responsibilities:Estimate Development:
Lead the preparation of high-quality Type I, II, III, and IV CAPEX and OPEX cost estimates for large-scale projects, covering all project phases, from engineering and procurement to installation and commissioning, and including abandonment considerations.Strategic Cost Leadership:
Oversee the application of cost-estimating methodologies, tools, and industry best practices to ensure precise and reliable estimates that align with Worley's objectives, contributing to our ambition of achieving 75 percent sustainability-driven project revenue by FY26.Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Collaborate with engineering, procurement, project management, and sustainability teams to provide cost insights that support project planning and decision-making, promoting a sustainable, long-term approach to resource allocation.System & Tool Expertise:
Utilize advanced estimating software programs, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and Visual Basic to develop, maintain, and refine cost models. Support the development of new tools and processes that enhance estimating accuracy and project alignment.Mentorship & Team Leadership:
Provide leadership, training, and guidance to the estimating team, fostering a collaborative environment that emphasizes shared learning and professional growth. Ensure the team's capabilities are aligned with project needs and Worley's long-term vision.Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
Identify opportunities for process improvements within estimating functions, aligning with Worley's mission to deliver sustainable change. Encourage innovation and adapt estimating approaches to reflect emerging project needs and client expectations.
Qualifications / Skill Set:Education & Experience:
A degree in a relevant field such as engineering, construction management, or finance, or equivalent experience. Significant experience in estimating for complex, large-scale projects, ideally with supervisory or managerial responsibilities.Technical Proficiency:
Strong working knowledge of estimating software, including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and Visual Basic, along with an expert understanding of cost estimation methodologies for CAPEX and OPEX in the energy, chemicals, or resources industries.Strategic Decision-Making:
Proven ability to make independent, long-range planning and technical decisions that support both project-specific and organizational objectives. Skilled at managing multiple complex projects and translating technical insights into actionable budgetary guidance.Collaborative Leadership:
Participative management style with a demonstrated ability to foster cross-functional teamwork and to lead estimating initiatives that align with Worley's sustainability goals.Effective Communication:
Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting complex proposals and reports to senior leadership and influencing stakeholders at all levels. Collaborative approach to managing client relationships and cross-functional partnerships.Systems & Process Development:
Advanced understanding of the systems, processes, and tools used in project estimating. Ability to train others and contribute to the development of new systems that advance project accuracy and alignment with organizational goals.
