JOB SUMMARY :
The nurse must be able to assess the physical, social and emotional/mental health needs of students. The nurse should be proactive in dealing with health issues that affect students in order to promote optimal learning in the educational setting. The nurse should be comfortable working with families, students and a variety of professionals on a daily basis.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Possess a BSN degree with current Michigan Registered Nurse License, and be eligible for School Nurse Certification according to the provision on Act 187 of the Public Acts of1972.Public Health Nursing or School Nursing experience preferred.DUITES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides coordination, oversight, and support for the school health services program.Develops and provides direct care for students with acute and special health care needs.Provides liaison services with local health services/providers.Provides necessary training to school personnel and/or student nurses.Provides health support for students and families to maximize classroom participation.May on rare occasion require weekend and/or evening coverage.Performs other duties as assigned.
EVALUATION : Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Certificated Personnel.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes of books. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.
