Role PurposeThe Vice President, Labor Relations will be responsible for oversight of the labor relations function for the Universal Studios Hollywood (“USH”) theme park business of NBCUniversal, including collective bargaining, contract administration & grievance handling, and legal compliance, and provide labor relations support for other NBCU businesses as assigned. The role reports to the Senior Vice President of Labor and Employment for Universal Destinations & Experiences and is located in Universal City, California.Job DutiesPartner with business executives, and lead development and implementation of long and short-term strategic labor relations objectivesProvide strategic advice and counsel to internal clients, including human resources professionals, business leaders and managers regarding labor laws and union contractual obligations to further business objectives in both union and non-union environmentsDevelop and execute collective bargaining strategy for 13+ collective bargaining agreements; act as chief company spokesperson in all collective bargainingOversee union contract compliance and administration for all collective bargaining agreementsAct as labor legal counsel in grievances and arbitrations and in proceedings before the National Labor Relations BoardProvide legal advice and support for Taft-Hartley plan auditsCreate training for HR and managementEstablish and maintain strong, constructive working relationships with labor union representativesAdvise on employment matters and handle employment law-related issues impacting represented employees as appropriate and in coordination with employment counsel, including but not limited to California and federal obligations with respect to unlawful discrimination & harassment, accommodations and wage & hour mattersManage direct reportsQualificationsRequired QualificationsLaw degreeAdmitted to practice law, California bar preferredMinimum of 10 years of labor relations/labor law experiencePrior collective bargaining experience as 1st chair, including prior experience developing bargaining strategyPrior experience interpreting and providing advice and counsel on collective bargaining agreementsPrior experience providing advice and counsel in connection with representation demands and proceedingsPrior experience as lead attorney in labor arbitrations and in handling matters before the National Labor Relations BoardDesired CharacteristicsPrior experience as management-side labor relations counselPrior experience analyzing and calculating the cost of collective bargaining proposals and the financial impact of the overall agreementPrior experience advising on contingency planningExperience advising employers on employment lawsExperience managing direct reportsSuperior communication skills, both verbal and written, including legal and business writingExceptional interpersonal skills, with ability to interact with a range of personalities and styles and establish effective relationships of all levels of the organizationClear and strategic thinker, with ability to quickly identify root causes of problems and develop creative, strategic and effective solutionsAdditional RequirementsMust be willing to work in Los Angeles, CAWillingness to travel on occasionMust have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United StatesMust be available to work evenings and weekendsThis position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per weekThis position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
