Primary Responsibilities:Execute delivery of legal services and related support to UnitedHealthcare’s regulatory affairs organizationDrive implementation of new legislation, including mental health parity legislationCounsel senior management on regulatory matters and risk mitigationProvide legal support to regulatory issues, including market conduct exams and regulatory complaintsServe as lead legal support for West Region exams, including negotiation of resolutions with regulators related to audits, exams or other inquiries Counsel on mental health parity related inquiries and assist with parity related analysis and risk mitigation Draft exam and audit responses, consent orders and settlement agreementsSupport key areas for regulatory advocacy with federal and state agenciesCollaborate with colleagues across the UnitedHealth Group’s legal and compliance departmentsHelp foster key regulatory relationshipsYou’ll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications:Juris Doctorate degreeCurrent license to practice law in one or more US jurisdictions5+ years of legal experience2+ years of experience in at least one of the following areas: LitigationHealth ParityHealthcare insurance Preferred Qualifications:Legal experience in health law or commercial healthcare insurance Experience with regulatory agencies Experience with mental health parity program compliance Background in litigation or audit support Understanding of health insurance and/or the managed care industry Understanding of business problems related to assigned legal projects and ability to evaluate and determine appropriate legal course of action to meet business unit needsProven success in collaborating across a matrixed business and legal environmentProven ability to build and maintain rapport with superiors, peers, subordinates, and external company contacts*All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group’s Telecommuter Policy California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Washington, Washington, D.C. Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $122,100 to $234,700 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
