Charting System Experience: Affinity and Sunrise
Weekend/On Call Requirements: Every other weekend may be required

Criteria for Admission to Medical Telemetry
· Routine nursing care accommodated by an RN/Patient ratio of 5:1
· Patients who need a Nursing assessment every 8 hours
· Patients who need Vital signs every 8 hours routinely
· Cardiac monitoring
· Hemodynamically stable dysrhythmia
· Strong suspicion of non-ST segment Elevate Myocardial Infarction (non-STEMI) or unstable coronary syndrome by history, electrocardiogram, or labs for cardiac injury with resolution of chest pain and without hemodynamic instability or life threatening arrhythmias.
· Pre and post-operative patients requiring telemetry and closer cardiac observation as compared to the general medical surgical nursing unit but patients who do not require ICU.
· Patients with infectious diseases if requiring negative air flow isolation room 213.
· ST segment Elevated Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) patients after 12-24 hours of ICU monitoring and stability.
· Patient’s status post Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA) without STEMI, hemodynamic instability, or life threatening arrhythmias.
· Suspected pacemaker malfunction
· Observation post pacer, defibrillator placement or post ablation
· Patients transferred from ICU or Stepdown must be hemodynamically stable for at least 4 hours without pharmacologic hemodynamic intervention prior to transfer
· Patients from the Emergency Department who demonstrate hemodynamic instability in the ED must be hemodynamically stable in the ED for at least 1 hour without pharmacologic hemodynamic intervention prior to transfer
Treatment Provided:
· Routine finger stick blood sugar
· Cardiac or vasoactive drips/IV Meds that are stable, or require titration for no more than 90 minutes to stabilize patient include
o Diltiazem drip/IVP
o Metoprolol
Special Care Procedures on this Unit Include:
· Two or more blood transfusions in a 12 hour period
· Three or more fluid boluses for maintaining adequate blood pressure in a 12 hours period.
Procedures completed by the physician for Medical Telemetry patients include but are not limited to:
· Thoracentesis
· Paracentesis
· Central Line insertion
· Bone marrow aspiration
· Chest tube insertion
