Senior Staff Accountant
Midwest Holding LLC. , a rapidly growing financial services holding company, is seeking a highly analytical, hands on, and energetic individual to join their Team as Senior Staff Accountant. We operate as a modern technology-enabled, insurance holding company focused on long-term growth, and to advance the insurance value chain through products and services that focus on reduced costs and increased customer value. Our objective is to leverage state of the art technology, product-development and administrative capabilities, and relationships and reputation, to create, sell, and administer life and annuity products through third party independent marketing organizations.
Summary/ObjectiveThe Senior Staff Accountant will be responsible for utilizing accounting theory and GAAP to prepare, assist, and analyze a wide range of accounting and financial assignments.
Essential FunctionsPrepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules in a timely mannerFacilitate and complete monthly and year end proceduresAnalyze revenues, expenses and statistics regularly to ensure accuracyPrepare weekly and monthly account reconciliationsComplete any investment accounting related tasks, including investment specific journal entries, account reconciliations, etc.Assist with analyzing financial statements, identifying and resolving variancesAssist with audit and reporting activities and requestsResearch complex accounting, reporting and transactional matters as they ariseMaintain fixed assets and associated depreciation schedulesEnsure proper documentation and monitoring of internal controlsAssist with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable activitiesAssist with General Ledger accounting and reconciliationsDevelop accounting and financial procedure documents as needed, establishing accounting procedures for assigned tasksProvide ongoing support for partners across the organization for accounting, reporting, and investment requirements and tasksBuild and maintain transaction filesOther duties as assigned

Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical DemandsThe physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and communicate with others. This may be over the phone, in person, or through email and messaging. The employee must be able to hear customers and agents over the phone. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand; walk, and use their hands and fingers to work with the computer, phones, filing cabinets, paperwork, etc.
Position Type and Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours as needed in order to complete tasks and meet deadlines.

Required Education and ExperienceBachelors degree in Accounting or Finance5+ years of solid accounting experience, preferably within the insurance industrySolid knowledge of GAAP and accounting foundationsCPA Preferred
