2820|Special ServicesResponsibilities:The Upward Bound Math Science Program (a federal U. S. Department of Education Trio grant) is designed to serve and support first-generation and/or low-income high school students. The program is under the supervision of the Director of Special Services, who reports to the Dean of University College.Applicants are invited to apply for the Upward Bound Math Science Academic Counselor position (a 12-month position). The job responsibilities are as follows:Responsible for recruiting and providing academic counseling and services to program participants at target high schools. (Requires travel utilizing personal vehicle.)Hold individual and group counseling sessions with participants at target schools and during on-campus 6-week summer residential components with some evenings of supervision. (Requires supervision on some Saturdays and field trips.)Assist in the supervision and coordination of academic and non-academic program components: Communicate with instructors, school counselors, families of participants, and community-based agencies to obtain information and further the understanding of participant needs on behalf of project participants.Collect student data to create project participants’ educational plans in collaboration with UBMS Assistant Director, maintain student records, and assist in completing components of an annual performance report.Attend program functions/workshops and conferences to improve delivery of student services.
