Provide expert leadership to improve the development & evaluation processes and to develop best practices in the area of packaging creation. Provide technical leadership in developing retail/consumer packages to support new products, package improvements, package refreshes and cost reduction.Provide creative leadership that fosters use of cutting edge technologies and innovative design approaches in structural packaging solutions for consumer market.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESFull cycle experience and knowledge of complete packaging process. High familiarity with all materials and their respective processes and costing.Develop packaging structures using a variety of materials including paperboard, corrugated material, and vacuum form plastics, blister pack.Evaluate structural package designs for cost effectiveness, considering material options, and manufacturability.Be abreast of new and emerging technologies in packaging materials, treatments & processes.Sustain current package designs for improvements in quality and cost.Work directly with each Designer in development of new package designs.Develop, manage and sustain documentation of packaging (aka. PDB-Packaging Development Brief) to ensure high-level accuracy in what is communicated.Perform preliminary package feasibilities to determine proper package size, package style and affordability.General knowledge of graphic printing, associated equipment and materials (inks, coatings, etc).Accountable for Cost, Schedule and Performance of the designs.Creative/innovative thinking towards solutions in designing a variety of retail packages for best possible shelf appeal.Create package samples for a variety of uses:

Evaluation and approval of size and style. Address "perceived value".Package comps for meetings.Sales samples.Generate accurate and producible die-lines for graphic development.

Document all packaging:

Engineering Drawings: Stand alone drawing giving all specifications required to produce a packaging component.BOM: List of all components required in a package at the primary and secondary levels of packaging, including the quantity of toys in each PDQ/Sidekick.Creation of PDB, which includes all of the above.Evaluate production samples to ensure material quality and product placement are as specified.Produce schematic planograms for Sales which show the customer how your products will merchandize on their shelves. Planograms can be made as simple line drawings and/or in color with scaled graphics.Seek opportunities to cost-reduce existing packaging for "carry-over" products while maintaining "perceived value".

In the event of conflicts, associates must make full disclosure and take appropriate action under the company's Conflict of Interest Policy.Conduct business transactions with suppliers, contractors, vendors and other third parties at arm's length, and without offers of or solicitations for gifts, favors or other improper inducements.Exercise responsible stewardship to preserve and protect our organization's assets by making prudent and effective use of its resources.Ethics & ComplianceAccept responsibility to adhere to company policies and procedures.Develop and maintain an environment of respect and value.Communicate any legal or ethical violations or concerns to appropriate personnel.Will not retaliate against any associate and will report retaliation to appropriate personnel immediately.DEGREE OF SUPERVISIONMay supervise and coach Engineers.EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONBS in Packaging Engineering or related technical field required or equivalent direct industry experience.MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/PREFERREDMinimum of 6+ years experience in design & development of retail packaging (preferably for high volume/high tech toy products).Ability to design and document complex retail packaging systems made from paperboards, corrugates and plastics.Expert knowledge of a variety of packaging materials including paperboards, corrugate, plastics.Expert knowledge of packaging assembly process including manual assembly, blister pack heat, RF and other methods of sealing/tamper proofing retail packages.Complete knowledge of costs associated with different materials used in package design.General knowledge of graphic printing, associated equipment and materials (inks, coatings, etc).Ability to create complex package component drawings using AutoCAD.Ability to assess packaging material vendor capabilities to meet MGA quality standards. Ability to test package materials and final product per industry standards.Good working knowledge of vacuum form tools and forming equipment.Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.Proactive thinker and problem solver.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
