Job Summary:
We’re seeking a Junior Collections Counsel with an interest in fast-paced litigation to join our Legal Department. In addition to working with other lawyers in the Legal Department, this role will work directly with the Credit and Accounts Receivable departments in a high-volume litigation practice recovering unpaid accounts for the Company nationwide. We are looking for someone with a drive to engage in all aspects of litigation practice including drafting pleadings and motions, attending regular dockets, motion hearings and trial practice. EquipmentShare is a fast-paced, rapidly growing company with customers spanning most of the 50 states. Minimizing unpaid AR helps ensure the future success and growth of the company. Duties/Responsibilities : Prepare, review, and deliver demand letters to customers Manage cases from the initial filing to execution of final judgment Prepare accounts for suit E-Filing cases on the state’s case filing system and other data entry functions Draft and review legal documents such as petitions, affidavits, discovery requests and responses, judgments, executions, liens, garnishments, etc. Appear for dockets and argue motions before the court Field phone calls from customers to assist with collection efforts and coordinate payment arrangements Communicate with local court clerks, process servers, and sheriffs Research state statutes for various related legal issues such as local collections laws, liens, garnishments, levies, etc. Required Skills/Abilities : Proactive work ethic demonstrating initiative Ability to multi-task within a fast-paced work environment with very detailed information and maintain a high degree of accuracy Ability to organize, coordinate, manage self and time effectively, prioritize projects, and meet deadlines Ability to communicate effectively, professionally, and persuasively with employees, managers, and the public, both verbally and in writing Self-directed and able to learn and work effectively both independently and in a team environment Adaptable to growth and changes in organization, role, and systems Must be located in, or willing to, relocate to Columbia, MO Education and Experience: Law degree from an accredited university Admission to the Missouri Bar Admission to other state bars preferred but not required Collections experience preferred but not required At least 1-4 years litigation experience preferred Physical Requirements: Ability to sit for extended periods About You: Our mission to change an entire industry is not easily achieved, so we only hire people who are inspired by the goal and up for the challenge.
