Job Description Summary:This position is a lead-level, hybrid position in Boulder, Colorado responsible for helping build and maintain operations across three (3) of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research's (UCAR's) Data Center Services Colorado (DCSC) facilities and in cooperation with the NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center (NWSC) in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and UCAR Facilities and Maintenance Services. The expectation is that this position will require onsite work 3-4 days a week under normal circumstances but could require periods of full-time onsite.

This position involves a range of responsibilities, including contributing to procurement, designing, planning, installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and documentation of data center and network services and equipment. This position also includes working with Data Center Infrastructure and Management (DCIM) servers, software, tools, infrastructure, cabling and equipment installation and documentation, facility audits, chaperones, and operating as "remote hands and/or eyes." This position involves leading as assigned by management and collaborating with outside vendors, other network staff, facilities, Information Technology (IT) operations, all programs and divisions, and the community who use the local facilities and NETS services.

What You Will Do

Here is a brief summary of what one would expect to be generally responsible for in this role.

Ensure high-availability operations of DCSC facilities following established procedures and guidelines.Coordinates installation, relocation, and removal of IT equipment.Participate as part of a team in the design and installation of IT infrastructure systems, racks, cabinets, containment, communications tray, etc.Participate as part of a team in space planning exercises, including creating and updating existing transition models and analysis, creating work requests, and contributing to management processes.Assist in Emergency planning and preparedness.Secondary DCSC on-site contact to NOC and Facilities Operations. Provide timely and effective two-way communications on infrastructure systems status information, including maintenance, new service installations, and planned and unplanned outages.Maintains security access control data for DC Facilities.Maintain compliance with media and data destruction policy.Participates as part of a team to lead or direct the support of network equipment and infrastructure installation projects as needed or directed by NETS Management.Leads or participates as part of a team in the installation, configuration, integration, testing, optimization, troubleshooting, and documentation of a controller-based monitoring system including UPS, Ethernet, and out-of-band.Who We'd Love To Join Our Team

Graduation certificate from a technical institute in an electrical or mechanical area and five years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Required/Desired)

Advanced Knowledge of DC critical Infrastructure (UPS/Generators/HVAC/Redundancy etc)Advanced proficiency in installing, relocating, and removal of IT equipment (servers, network, and rack systems, including power and network cable management)Working knowledge of construction tools, building techniques, and fabrication techniques as they apply to data centers and networking environmentsAble to operate material handling equipment - server lifts and pallet jacksExcellent written and oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with UCAR staff, by listening, understanding, and courteously responding to reasonable requestsWorking knowledge of National Electric Codes and state and municipal electrical and building codesDemonstrated understanding of safety best practices and the ability to maintain a safe working environment
