As a Data Center Technician , you will perform various functions within the data center such as cabling hardware, rack / stack installations, testing, and troubleshooting using standard data center processes. Perform power cycles, swap out failed components, physically assist in moving and racking equipment. Supporting deployment of on-site data center physical infrastructure. Understand overall ticket management process, as well as inventory management and shipping/receiving processes. Data Center Technician shall possess an understanding of mechanical, electrical and Fire Life Safety systems used in a data center environment. Data Center Technician shall exhibit the ability to operate and maintain infrastructure such as chillers, switchgear, generators, UPSs, and Fire Life Safety systems utilizing approved procedures. Objectives include a strong desire and capability to learn, grow, and develop new skills as well as establish strong working relationships with various internal teams and external suppliers and vendors. What you'll do Essential Functions / Process Responsibilities include the following: other duties may be assigned, as necessary. Support the existing hardware at the data center. Deploy new equipment and upgrade existing equipment. Working knowledge of physical IT infrastructure components. Work experience in troubleshooting optical connectivity issues as well as using a cable analyzer, smart network tester, and OTDR. Installing in-cabinet, uplink, and structured cabling solutions. Experience with network architecture design and installation. Work requires cross functional collaboration and coordination between teams. Rack and cable network devices and systems, utilizing industry standard methodologies to ensure environments are presentable and in good working order. Document, label, and inventory all deployed IT hardware. Remove, transport, and re-install equipment during physical migrations/moves. Interact with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution. Responds to incidents and service interruptions. Function as "remote hands" for engineers located in other geographic areas. Operate and maintain mechanical and electrical, and fire life safety equipment within the data center. Troubleshoot of facility and rack-level events within internal SLAs. Perform limited maintenance tasks to including filter changes, HVAC PMs, rack power installs, rack PDU, and rack ATS replacements. Supervise contractors who perform repairs and or preventive maintenance. Respond to off hour emergency calls per on call rotation for any one of the region's sites. Reads blueprints, schematics, diagrams, or technical order to determine methods and sequences of processes. Who You Are Education and Experience Preferred A minimum of 5 years in a mechanical/electrical position within critical facilities (preference given to data center, hospital, semi-conductor, or power plant experience). A related degree or comparable formal training, certification, or industry related work experience. Good people skills. Good verbal, listening, and written communication skills. Ability to logically identify, analyze and solve problems. Ability to effectively multi-task multiple projects. Experience with Change Management Systems, Building Management Systems BMS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS). Physical and Other Requirements Function in a fast-paced, retail, office environment. Travel by car or plane with overnight stays. Work extended hours. Responding to support calls, managing incidents within internal change management system, and providing resolution to issues and documenting solutions within change management system. 24x7 on-call rotation. Manage the shipping/receiving of equipment and assist in maintaining inventory levels. Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and working at heights. Ability to move equipment up to 50 lbs. (pallet jacks and chassis lifts). Flexibility to work non-business hours (shifts) that may include weekends and/or holidays. What are the Perks?
