SUMMARY: Responsible for the technical, engineering oversight of one or multiple vessels within a larger fleet. May include Tugs, Barges, ATBs, Tank Vessels, General Cargo Vessels, LNG Vessels or other types. Includes overseeing the daily operations of maintenance and repair, budgeting, survey schedules, general assessment, inspections, and docking.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the technical, operational and performance of vessels from an engineering perspective. Provide guidance and solutions to technical issues to ensure full technical readiness and optimum performance of vessels in meeting the service commitments of the organization. Plan, coordinate, and project manage fleet-time maintenance programs, regular service periods, dry-dockings, and vessel upgrades. Keep abreast of current and emerging industry advances and their application in an engineering capacity to optimize performance. Liaison with the vessel Engineer/Captain on required maintenance needs. Regularly attend vessels during times of out of service or dry-docking. Partners with sourcing and procurement in support of contractor and supplier network contracting. Develop budget specifications and KPIs and other reports as needed. Ensure the engineering procedures and policies are periodically reviewed, modified, and implemented. EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in marine engineering or a related field; 10 years in an engineering related field, including seagoing experience, may be substituted in lieu of the educational requirements.
EXPERIENCE: 5 - 8 years' relevant experience in marine engineering, sailing onboard a vessel or shoreside experience in a Marine Superintendent, Port Engineer or similar role. Special consideration given sailing on LNG tank vessels.
TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY: Strong understanding of shipboard systems including propulsion and auxiliary machinery, electrical, hydraulic, LNG Equipment, and other systems. Depending upon fleet, knowledge of medium speed and / or large slow-speed diesel plants. Familiarity with vessel management systems such as Nautical Systems and HELM. Proficient in general computer skills including Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook and Word.
COMPETENCIES: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously. Ability to evaluate process effectiveness and develop change or alternatives. Ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope. Ability to prepare, monitor and administer budgets, as well as perform financial analysis. Ability to indirectly mentor, coach, train and/or supervise employees.
OTHER: USCG license and/or Maritime graduate preferred.
