The Desktop Performance Applications Engineer is an exciting and impactful position, playing a lead role in managing the firm's desktop, laptop and virtual image design, performance, and support. In this role, you will provide expert guidance, support and troubleshooting on endpoint hardware and operating systems. The key to success in this position will be leveraging tools such as Nexthink and Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager in collecting data to improve performance, trouble-shoot and ensure a good end-user experience. You will play a critical role in the overall technology experience of all personnel in the firm. You will be a third level escalation point for end user technical support and will interact with Project Managers, Business Analysts, Trainers, Process Owners, Application Owners, Third-party Consultants, and End Users to complete projects on a global scale and provide subject matter expertise especially in the areas of desktop hardware, design, and performance. You will interface with other engineers in the Applications, Web Engineering, Innovations, Service Operations, Security, and Infrastructure areas. Ownership of the performance and user experience associated with the Windows-based desktops, laptops, and virtual desktops. Responsibility in providing guidance on the selection of desktop and laptop hardware and its configuration. Usage of tools such as of Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager and Intune, M365 in managing and supporting endpoints. Provide 3rd level technical support. Provide guidance to other engineers and the Service Desk team on endpoint and application matters and work closely with the Technology Training Team to develop user level training. Stay abreast of the new technologies and trends and bring forward relevant ideas and enhancements to improve endpoint performance and user experience. Participate in the On-Call support rotation of the Applications Team. This will require learning Orrick's core application suite. Help to plan and implement systems and services particularly in the areas of desktop hardware, design and performance that differentiate Orrick from other law firms and keep us on the leading edge of technology. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related area from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience. Expert experience implementing, leveraging, and supporting Microsoft 365 with demonstrated subject matter expertise. At least 5 years' experience and expert level knowledge of desktop operating system performance monitoring, analysis and tuning. In-depth, expert level knowledge of desktop operating systems including Windows 10 and Windows 11. Experience with the Nexthink Experience platform or similar software.
