Overview:
As the Welding Team Lead, you will provide mentorship and guidance to the welding team of about 8 people in the shop. Your humility and flexible approach will foster an environment with open transfer of knowledge and learning.
You will be successful in this role if you are proficient with MIG and TIG welding and are looking for a hands-on role. As a custom job shop, a varied skillset will serve you well with experience welding stainless steel, carbon, and exotic materials.
This role reports to our Operations Manager who has been with the company for many years and is an excellent resource to the shop team. As a small business, we are a close-knit group and all work onsite at our sole location in Owatonna.
Responsibilities:
Promote a positive and professional work environment by exemplifying our company valuesAssembly and welding of various products, including heat exchangers (pressure vessels), housings and transitions, air handlers, and other assemblies and equipmentTypes of joints to include: tube-to-tube, tube-to-pipe, tube-to-plate, sheet metal, structural steelTIG, MIG, and Oxy-acetylene welding on steel, stainless steel, or other metals as requiredAssist, train, and review the work of other weldersImprove the quality of both the products and the welding departmentSet up, operation, and maintenance of welding equipmentMaintain ASME welding qualificationInspect and test all work completed to verify conformance to specificationsOperate overhead crane to move heavy objects and forklift to load/unload trucks as neededCommunicate with supervisor and/or supplier regarding welding suppliesReport defective materials or questionable conditions to supervisorMaintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly conditionMaintain company safety, quality, efficiency, and productivity standards
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GEDWelding Certificate or higher education5+ years of welding experience in a manufacturing settingSuccessful completion of an internal welding testPossess strong welding knowledge, including base metals, wire & filler materials, and welder parametersPossess good mechanical aptitude and competency using most hand toolsAbility to accurately measure objects using hand-held measuring toolsAbility to read and understand blueprints, order acknowledgment, engineering drawings, and written instructionRecognize potential safety hazards and take appropriate actions to minimize risksAbility to solve problems and work independentlyFunction as a team member and contribute to group goals while maintaining a positive attitudeAbility to safely and efficiently operate welding equipment, forklifts, and overhead cranesKnowledge of basic math skills.Ability to understand and communicate in English to the extent necessary to perform all job functions.
