We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and preparing to launch commercial service in 2025.OverviewJoby Aviation is seeking a passionate Manufacturing Engineer Lead to join our Powertrain & Electronics Manufacturing Engineering Team in San Carlos, CA. The Manufacturing Engineer Lead will direct a small team of highly skilled and experienced manufacturing engineers and work closely with a cross functional team to develop equipment and processes for assembly of the Joby Aviation aircraft actuators. This individual must be highly organized and self-driven, possessing a deep understanding of mechanical, process, and industrial engineering fundamentals to successfully scale projects from prototype to low volume production, while keeping a vision for high volume production in mind. This position is exciting and rewarding, as the Manufacturing Engineer Lead will promptly see their ideas influence many key areas due to the fast pace of Joby Aviation. ResponsibilitiesLead a team of manufacturing engineersCoordinate cross functional work with Product Design on process/equipment/tool development.Own and improve strategy for existing production line, tools and procedures.Manage and prioritize design of new tools, equipment and process for upcoming projectsProvide single contributor work to bridge gaps in team’s bandwidthRequiredBS in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or equivalent8+ years of relevant work experience. 2+ years of experience leading teamsExperience in process development and performing process validations for manufacturingStrong mechanical engineering fundamentalsExcellent problem solving and teamwork skills while working with cross-functional teamsPassion for diving into the details and providing constructive feedback to the team and other cross functional teamsDesiredExperience in manufacturing in a regulated environment such as 14 CFR Part 21, ISO9001, ISO 13485, TS16949, or equivalentEEOStatistics show that under-represented groups, such as women and other minority groups, don’t apply to a job unless they meet 100% of the required qualifications. Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $133,100 - $177,400 per year salary.
