Bone Marrow Transplant - Brown Cancer Center

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) provides assessment, management, and outcome evaluation for patients for both the inpatient and outpatient settings.

The APRN/PA serves as a resource to educate patients, families, professional nurses, and staff; functions as a liaison between patients, families and UofL Physicians staff; and participates in clinical research.

The APRN/PA should demonstrate an advanced level of medical knowledge, clinical and technical competency, sound clinical judgment, professionalism as it relates to interpersonal and general communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and take responsibility for ongoing professional development and competency validation

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of clients using interviews, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies for both inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Recognizes deviations from normal in the physical assessment. Works in collaboration with a physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems and follow-up.
  • Writes prescriptions for medication, blood tests, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, and therapeutic measures.
  • Requests written consultation from physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate and quality patient care.
  • Interprets and evaluates findings of studies/tests.
  • Relays appropriate information regarding patient care to the collaborating physician.
  • Evaluate the quality of care provided and recommend changes for improvement.
  • Initiates appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of the patient.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary conferences and ensures appropriate, quality care.
  • Provides symptom management for side effects related to oncologic treatment.
  • Assist with admissions.
  • Works both collaboratively and independently.
  • Maintains oversight of the survivorship program and survivorship clinic. 
  • Shares clinical expertise with professional and supportive personnel.
  • Documents and reports care in an accurate, timely manner.
  • Works effectively with others. Collaborates with other health disciplines to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Promotes evidence-based nursing practice/research by participating in clinical research and leading efforts in scientific inquiry.
  • Varied schedule based on rotation between inpatient, outpatient, and night call.
  • Maintains professional certification in specialty area; attends and participates in national, regional, and/or local educational conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - APRN

  • Master of Nursing degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current licensure in the state of Kentucky as an APRN.
  • National certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner, Emergency Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Current DEA certificate without restriction
  • CPR and BLS current

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - PA

  • Current certification and licensure in the state of Kentucky and/or Indiana as a Physician Assistant.
  • Professional experience in subspecialty is strongly preferred.
  • Current ACLS/BLS required.
