Course Description
TheLSA Department of Women's and Gender Studies (https://lsa.umich.edu/content/michigan-lsa/wgs/en.html) has up to one GSI positions for the Winter 2025 term to lead two discussion sections for a faculty-led lecture inWGS-240 (https://webapps.lsa.umich.edu/cg/cg_detail.aspx?content=2520WGS240001&termArray=w_25_2520) (Introduction to Women's and Gender Studies).
Responsibilities*
Successful applicants will teach two discussion sections of WGS 240 under the direction of the course instructor for a 50% GSI appointment. The duties of this appointment will also include grading (per lead faculty instruction), attending all lectures, holding weekly office hours, and leading discussion sections as scheduled, which may include development of some independent lesson plans. Responsibilities also include meeting regularly with the lead instructor and responding promptly to emails. Additional duties and responsibilities as outlined in the fraction calculation form. Note that both lecture and discussion sections are scheduled as in-person instruction.
Required Qualifications*
Enrolled in good standing as a graduate student at the University of Michigan.
Available to attend all lectures and to teach the scheduled section times.
If the language of instruction at a student's undergraduate institution was not English, they must be evaluated by theEnglish Language Institute (https://lsa.umich.edu/eli) (ELI) for English proficiency and either pass theGSI-OET (https://michiganassessment.org/michigan-tests/gsi-oet/) or have this test waived by the ELI before they can be eligible for a GSI appointment in LS&A.
Desired Qualifications*
Strong preference for applicants with prior teaching experience, some pedagogical training, and an interest in the course topic.
Experience with Canvas.
Previous experience teaching courses in WGS is desired.
Previous experience as a GSI is desired.
LSA student enrolled in a graduate program.
Modes of Work
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.
