amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, is seeking a dynamic and strategic Development Manager (Major Gifts).amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, is one of the world’s leading nonprofit organizations dedicated to the support of AIDS research, HIV prevention, treatment education, and advocacy. Since 1985, amfAR has invested more than $635 million in its programs and has awarded grants to more than 3,800 research teams worldwide.PRIMARY FUNCTIONS :Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gifts ($10,000 and up) from current and prospective individuals and foundations. Create and implement a comprehensive, multi-year major gifts campaign to support amfAR’s research and programs, while supporting other development revenue opportunities as needed and defined by the Director of Philanthropy.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :Primary responsibility – manage a portfolio of approximately 150 major donors and prospectsProactively and robustly cultivate new and existing major donors and solicit major gifts.Work with the Manager of Prospect Research to identify new funding prospectsGrow existing donors to higher giving levels, create new fundraising initiatives, and develop appropriate solicitation materials.Maintain strong relationships with program staff to anticipate and understand funding needs and develop funding goals and strategies.Create short- and long-term strategies and action plans for all donors and prospects in portfolio; prepare detailed fundraising progress reports for the Director of Philanthropy.Be a strong and capable asker; lead one-on-one solicitations and coordinate key staff in the cultivation and solicitation of gifts.In partnership with the Director of Philanthropy, develop Donor Advised Fund strategy and lead on relationship management with philanthropic advisorsCollaborate across departments, including with Special Events, Public Information, Grants Management, Treat Asia, and the Public Policy Office, to support and align on institutional priorities and goals.Support additional development initiatives as needed, including for example special campaigns, online fundraising, and corporate partnerships, in collaboration with other departments to diversify revenue sources.Utilize donor data and analytics to refine major gift strategies, measure impact, and adjust approaches as necessary to meet revenue goals.Implement personalized stewardship plans for major donors to ensure ongoing engagement and recognition, creating a meaningful donor experience.Plan and execute major donor fundraising and cultivation events.Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current on best practices in philanthropy and major gifts fundraising.Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Philanthropy or the Chief Development Officer.QUALIFICATIONS :Bachelor’s degree.Five+ years fundraising or sales experience.Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills a must.Must possess superior ability to communicate cure focused scientific work in a compelling and persuasive message with empathy and heart.Self-starter with can-do attitude, keen to have an impact.Must be outgoing, confident, and comfortable in a variety of social situations.Proven track record of ability to close major gifts required.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fundraising software, preferably Salesforce, required.Opportunity for some travel.
