City of Hope's growing national system includes its Los Angeles campus, a network of clinical care locations across Southern California, a new cancer center in Orange County, California, and cancer treatment centers and outpatient facilities in the Atlanta, Chicago and Phoenix areas.Responsibilities:The Media Relations and External Communications Manager is responsible for developing proactive media relations strategies, identifying and cultivating key media relationships and securing positive press coverage that raises the profile of City of Hope Atlanta via traditional, online media and social media platforms, as well as medical/science, consumer, business and medical/health trade journals. Plans, creates and secures approval of a range of written content for online and print publications. Plans and curates social media strategies and content. Achieves consensus on messaging by consulting with clinical experts, City of Hope leaders, as well as members of the Office of Philanthropy. Crafts media materials such as news releases, video, background information, key messages, media advisories, Q&As and other tools for use in marketing new opportunities to the media and to the public. Core functions include:Developing communications strategies and managing execution including materials development, media outreach and managing internal projects teams including integration of plans across the Marketing and Communications department.Managing outside vendors in development of draft news releases, by-lined articles and blog post stories.Developing and leading regular media relations training sessions for high profile physicians, researchers and executive leaders.Developing proactive media relations strategies, identifying and cultivating key media relationships and securing positive press coverage.Planning, creating and securing approval of a range of written content for online and print publications.Managing City of Hope Atlanta's social media presence and developing social media campaigns to support overarching marketing and communications goals.Minimum QualificationsMinimum of 3 year of marketing or communications or related experience.Minimum of 3 years in a senior level healthcare business role.Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field.AP Style.Writing and editing of healthcare publications and stories, including scientific content.Experience may substitute for minimum education requirements.Preferred QualificationsFive years of relevant experience in media relations, marketing and communications a plus.1-2 years of experience in a managerial capacity, including at least one year in health care marketing communications.

Education RequirementsBachelor's degree in journalism, Marketing, Communication, Business or other related field or equivalent working experience/knowledge.Advanced Degree (e.g. master's degree) is Marketing, Communication, Business, or related fieldCity of Hope is an equal opportunity employer.
