Under the direct supervision of the building principal, the primary responsibility of the registered nurse shall be to provide health care for students, including dispensing required medications, caring for injuries and coordinating prevention activities and wellness programs.

Qualifications:

1.1-3 years of experience in a pediatric medical environment preferred.

2.Must hold a diploma or Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree from an accredited nursing program.

3.Must hold a valid license from the Illinois Department of Professional Regulations as an Illinois Registered Nurse.

4.Must be certified in CPR.

5.Demonstrates strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

6.Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

1.Provides safety and health information to all students and staff. Maintains state compliance regulations of all student health issues including immunization, health records, and vision and hearing screenings.

2.Dispenses medications as directed by the Illinois School Code and the District's policies and procedures, maintains security of controlled substances and medications.

3.Provides and/or monitors treatment based on assessment of students during periods of short-term and long-term rest and recovery, and communicates with parents and physicians of treatment, progress, etc.

4.Responsible for awareness of medication side effects and drug interactions.

5.Supervises and performs necessary medical interventions to provide and promote student independence.

6.Maintains universal precautions under the guidelines of OSHA.

7.Promotes student and staff wellness programs, including distribution of posters, newsletters, etc. Is a source of medical information for students, parents and staff.

8.Provides first aid care and notifies paramedics in a school emergency situation.

9.Develops, evaluates and updates individualized nursing interventions and goals for students at risk.

10.Notifies parents/staff of communicable diseases as necessary.

11.Provides classroom intervention on health issues as needed.

12.Communicates with parents, food service staff, teachers, etc. on the medical needs/issues of the students.

13.Prepares and maintains staff and student accident reports, communicable disease reports and a log of student visits to the nurse.

14.Attends parent/teacher/student meetings as required.

15.Refers students to the appropriate medical provider.

16.Assesses the medical needs of students.

17.Interfaces with all levels of school staff and with District staff and outside agencies.

18.Performs other related duties as may be necessary and assigned by the director of educational services and the building principal.

Starting Salary $33.62/hour
