Job Summary

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is an organization of 191 countries working to foster global monetary cooperation, secure financial stability, facilitate international trade, promote high employment and sustainable economic growth, and reduce poverty worldwide.

The Office of Internal Audit (OIA) serves as an independent assurance and advisory function, dedicated to protecting and strengthening the Fund's operations. The mission of OIA is to employ a systematic and disciplined approach to assess and enhance the effectiveness of the Fund's governance, risk management processes, and internal controls, as well as act as a consultant and catalyst for improving the Fund's business processes by advising on best practices and developing cost-effective control solutions.

Under the general supervision of OIA's Management Team, the Senior Auditor will be

expected to plan, lead, and execute risk-based audits

that deliver impactful, high-quality results across the Fund's core and cross-functional areas. The Senior Auditor will be directly responsible for producing strategically relevant audit reports and will be required to communicate audit findings clearly and succinctly to OIA Management team (MT) and clients. This role involves leadership beyond audit delivery, leveraging technical audit knowledge and thought leadership to mentor staff and contribute to OIA-wide activities, including annual risk assessments, work plan formulation, and other important special projects.

The ideal candidate will have a willingness to learn about the Fund's core and cross-functional areas , ensuring a well-rounded approach to auditing.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Plan and lead the delivery of assurance and advisory engagements across the Fund's core, cross-functional, and IT areas, ensuring adherence to OIA's audit methodology.Clearly document the roles and responsibilities of all team members for engagements to ensure accountability, effective communication, and streamlined processes throughout the engagement lifecycle.Define and agree on clear timelines and deliverables with clients, the Management Team (MT), and team members. Ensure engagements are completed within the allocated time and budget while delivering high-quality, value-added results.Lead the documentation of the audit plan, procedures, findings, and recommendations, ensuring relevance and accuracy. Review and provide oversight on workpapers prepared by team members to guarantee accuracy and quality.Facilitate workshops and discussions with stakeholders to gather insights and validate findings, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of business processes and controls.Communicate audit results effectively to clients and OIA Management, analyzing and discussing complex issues in an effective and compelling manner.Monitor the implementation of audit recommendations and follow up with clients to ensure that remedial actions are taken.Engage in continuous professional development to stay informed about the latest audit trends, technologies, and regulatory requirements, and share this knowledge with the team.Participate in the development of OIA's audit methodologies and practices, contributing to the enhancement of the overall audit framework.Maintain and build positive working relationships with client counterparts, keeping abreast of key developments within client departments.Create and maintain a supportive and inclusive team atmosphere that encourages open communication, collaboration, and mutual respect. This includes actively promoting a culture of trust where team members feel safe to express their ideas, concerns, and feedback without fear of judgment.Collaborate effectively with team members and manage the work of external consultants in the efficient conduct of assigned audit projects.Lead department-wide initiatives, such as OIA's annual risk assessment and work program formulation.Actively participate in knowledge dissemination and share best practices within OIA, with clients, and at professional forums outside the IMF.Coach, provide on-the-job training, and feedback to Audit Specialists and Auditors during engagements, contributing to staff development.Champion a culture of innovation, driving efficiency in existing processes through automation and embracing new technologies.Minimum Qualifications

Educational development, typically acquired by the completion of an advanced university degree in business, accounting, economics, finance, information technology, law, communications, organizational development, or a related field, or a professional certification either as an Accountant (CPA or international equivalent) or as an Auditor (CIA or CISA), supplemented by a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant work experience, or equivalent, is required. Alternatively, a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a related position at Grade A12, or equivalent, is required.

In addition:

Proven experience with internal audit methodology and experience in conducting audit and advisory engagements. Possess a comprehensive understanding of risk management principles and frameworks, including the ability to identify, assess, and prioritize risks.Certifications:

At least one professional certification in internal auditing, IT auditing, risk management, or IT security (e.g., Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)).Analytical Skills:

Strong analytical skills with a demonstrated ability to evaluate risks and controls effectively. Ability to apply this knowledge to execute risk-based audits and advisory reviews.Communication Skills : Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a particular emphasis on producing clear and concise audit reports. Ability to analyze and present complex issues compellingly to clients and management. Willingness and ability to stand firm on issues of importance and provide honest, objective assessments.Technical Proficiency : Proficiency in data analytics tools (e.g., Excel, Tableau, Power BI, ACL, IDEA, SAS) for performing as needed and providing supervision and oversight on the performance data analysis over key metrics or large datasets during risk assessments or audit testing.Organizational Skills:

Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and deliver assignments reliably under time constraints. Ability to anticipate challenges and take action before they arise, contributing to continuous improvement.Collaboration:

Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients. Ability to communicate audit issues in a clear and understandable manner to stakeholders.Adaptability:

Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, tools, and methodologies as they emerge in the auditing field. Flexibility in adjusting audit approaches to incorporate new technologies and changing business environments. Capable of working independently or across departments in a flexible team environment while handling multiple assignments simultaneously.Continuous Learning:

Commitment to ongoing professional development through training, certifications, and workshops to stay updated on the latest auditing practices and technologies.
