THIS POSITION WILL BE FILLED AS A PROBATIONAL APPOINTMENT

or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE

OF LOUISIANA STATE GOVERNMENT (State Employee)

This position may be filled as:DETAIL : The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.PROBATIONAL APPOINTMENT : Current permanent status classified State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment, if selected.TEMPORARY JOB APPOINTMENT : This position may be filled by temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.This position offers an additional $0.58 per hour for location pay.

There is premium pay for this position:

A rate between $0.50 and $1.00 an hour for each hour worked, based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Two years of experience in mobile equipment operation requiring a Class A CDL driver's license.

SUBSTITUTION:

Completion of a tractor trailer driving training program will substitute for six months of the required experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Applicants must possess a valid Louisiana Class A commercial driver's license at time of application.

Job Concepts

Function of Work:To transport and deliver industry products, livestock, and farm crops statewide for a correctional facility.

Level of Work:Advanced.

Supervision Received:General from a Prison Enterprises Manager or other higher-level personnel.

Supervision Exercised:Functional over lower level personnel and inmates.

Location of Work:Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Corrections Services, Prison Enterprises.

Job Distinctions:Differs from Mobile Equipment Operator positions by the requirement to operate heavy mobile equipment for a correctional facility, and provide security for assigned inmates.

Examples of Work

Delivers Prison Enterprises products to customers and correctional facilities daily.

Ensures chemical products are handled in a safe manner during transport and delivery.

Supervises inmates loading and unloading cargo.

Verifies cargo during loading, at point of shipment, and unloading at delivery site.

Performs pre and post operation vehicle checks and routine maintenance.

Serves as public relations officer for Prison Enterprises regarding problems with shipments.

Complies with federal and state laws and the regulations set by the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Health, and ACA/ACI Standards.
